David M. Velazquez

Executive Vice President, Utility Operations

Exelon Corporation

Velazquez is responsible for cross-utility operations across Exelon’s six local electric and natural gas companies -- Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco. Together, they form the nation’s largest utility company by customer count, serving approximately 10 million electric and gas customers in New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. He is also a member of Exelon’s executive committee.


Professional History

Velazquez previously served as president and CEO of Pepco Holdings, (PHI), where he was responsible for the leadership and overall operational and financial performance of the business. 
Prior to PHI’s merger into Exelon, Velazquez was the executive vice president and leader of the power delivery business for PHI.  He managed over 95 percent of the business and employee base and was responsible for all utility operations in three states and the District of Columbia including  IT and support services, and four local unions. 

From 2006 to 2009, Velazquez served as president and CEO of Conectiv Energy, PHI’s competitive merchant generation and energy trading subsidiary. He served as vice president of strategic planning and chief risk officer of PHI from 2005 to 2006.  

Civic Involvement

Mr. Velazquez has served on the boards of several educational and community organizations, such as the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, Trust for the National Mall, Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute Advisory Board, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Federal City Council, D.C. Policy Center of the Federal City Council, Emeritus Advisory Board of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, and United Way of the National Capital Area.  He has also served as a board member of Southeastern Electric Exchange, Association of Edison Illuminating Companies,  and is a member of the Edison Foundation Institute for Electric Innovation Management Committee.​



Velazquez holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Widener University.
