Exelon Among America’s Greatest Workplaces
Exelon is proud to be among Newsweek’s list of America’s Greatest Workplaces in 2024. This distinction features some of the most valued brands, innovative companies and institutional businesses across the country. Guided by our mission to power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities, Exelon employees are responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of reliable, clean and affordable energy to 10.5 million customers, while building a more sustainable future.
According to Newsweek, “Throughout 2022 and 2023, more than 250,000 U.S. employees were interviewed for the ranking, resulting in more than 1.5 million company reviews spanning 78 individual sectors. The survey covered topics like compensation and benefits, training and career progression, work-life balance and company culture.” Out of the 1,000 companies to make the Newsweek list, Exelon was one of only 20 utilities selected.
Last year, Exelon had more than 800 Employee Resource Group (ERG) initiatives, engaged more than 10,000 team members and continued championing the ERGs as a critical part of our internal dynamics and external interactions. Our ERG program offerings range from cultural chats to leadership panel discussions and professional development efforts. In 2023, we sought to further diversify and enhance our workforce by emphasizing enterprise-wide disability and veteran outreach strategies. Exelon’s CEO, Calvin Butler, also signed the Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve statement to encourage employee participation in the military. We are proud of the fact that in 2023, more than five percent of our total external hires were veterans.
Exelon’s efforts to attract a diverse and thriving workforce is built around the belief that employees play an invaluable role in our organization. To foster inclusive leadership and to advance a culture of inclusion, Exelon provides interactive and engaging training to executives and management employees. In 2023, over 150 Exelon leaders completed inclusive leadership training. According to research, the majority of workers say it’s important to work for a company that values their well-being and allows them to feel respected at work. In fact, unhappiness at work costs businesses an estimated $1.9 trillion in lost productivity annually. Statistics show that happy employees are 12 percent more productive and commit twice as much time to their tasks. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health reports that completing meaningful work contributes to happiness at work and reduces turnover intention of employees.
In our most recent employee survey, nearly 80 percent of respondents said they are proud to work at Exelon. While we are gratified by those results, our goal is to continue to evolve to meet the expectations of our workforce.
By promoting equity and reflecting our core mission to serve the communities in which we live and work, Exelon remains committed to volunteerism and philanthropy. Together with the Exelon Foundation, we provided $59 million in funding to nonprofit organizations in the communities where Exelon operates in 2023.
The Exelon Foundation offers employee match programs to impact and empower our employees to support organizations that are meaningful to them. In 2023, Exelon employees contributed more than $5.8 million through the Exelon Foundation Employee Giving Campaign and Matching Gifts programs, with a total of $9.8 million going to communities we serve.
Exelon will continue to build on our success, both as a company and as a place where employees can feel valued and respected for their work. Being featured in Newsweek’s rankings shows the progress we have made as we continue working to lead the energy transformation.
