Two Exelon Corp. (Nasdaq: EXC) executives, Exelon Utilities CEO Calvin Butler, and BGE CEO Carim Khouzami, have been recognized by The Daily Record in the publication’s “Power 100” list. The “Power 100” includes men and women across Maryland who are shaping Maryland’s businesses, government, nonprofits, law firms and other critical institutions. Other honorees included Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Maryland House speaker Adrienne Jones, and Maryland Senate president Bill Ferguson. Butler and Khouzami are the only energy industry professionals to receive this recognition.
Butler, senior executive vice president, was named fifth on the overall list and was recognized for his work promoting diversity within his Exelon leadership team and within BGE, and for his very visible work within the community. Butler served as BGE CEO from 2014 until 2019, when he was named Exelon Utilities CEO, by which time his 13-member management team had six people of color, including four women, and his diverse hiring practices had expanded to all BGE employees. Butler is also a powerful voice for change within the community; he currently serves on the board of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, the Baltimore Community Foundation, the Institute for International Education and the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Board of Visitors. Butler also took over as chairman of the Greater Baltimore Committee in October, encouraging the organization to be a leader in taking on racial injustice and inequities in the region.
Also named to the “Power 100” list is Carim Khouzami, who was named CEO of BGE in 2019 when Calvin Butler was promoted to oversee Exelon Utilities, BGE’s parent company, after serving as senior vice president and Chief Operating Officer of Exelon Utilities. A Baltimore native, Khouzami and his team are actively working to enhance and strengthen BGE’s connections in the community. Khouzami serves on the board of directors and executive committee for the Port Discovery Children’s Museum. He is also on the board of directors for Bridges Baltimore, an organization committed to the long-term success of motivated Baltimore City youth and life-changing volunteer opportunities for independent schools, and the board of directors for the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, which brings together business, government, education and non-profit leaders to market the region's economic development assets and opportunities.
“It is truly an honor to be included among so many of Maryland’s outstanding leaders as part of the Daily Record’s Power 100 list,” said Butler. “Both Carim and I, along with our leadership teams, are fully committed to powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and the communities of Maryland.”
“I couldn’t agree more with Calvin and am humbled to be recognized in this way, alongside so many accomplished and impactful leaders across central Maryland,” said Khouzami. “What we do as a company and as a region to lift up the communities we serve is really what matters most.”
The Maryland Daily Record’s “Power 100” recognizes the men and women across Maryland who are playing an outsize role in the culture, lifestyle, civic conversation and economic fortunes of Maryland.
