Paul Bowers served as the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, from 2011 to 2021. He also served as President of Georgia Power from 2011 to 2020. Prior to his most recent position, he was Chief Financial Officer of Southern Company, where he was rated by Institutional Investors magazine as one of the industry’s “Top Three CFOs in America.” Paul joined Southern Company in 1979 and held executive leadership positions at multiple subsidiaries.
Paul currently serves on the board of AFLAC (insurance company) as the lead non-management director. He also serves on the boards of EnviroSpark (electric vehicle infrastructure company), Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and BrandSafway (private construction and civil engineering firm), and as curator for the Georgia Historical Society. Paul is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Energy Policy Council, Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd. (past chairman), the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce (past chairman), the Georgia Chamber of Commerce (past chairman), and the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
