Exelon’s Calvin Butler Shares Leadership Experiences with Civil Rights Icon
Exelon’s president and CEO, Calvin Butler joined Dr. Ben Chavis for an episode of The Chavis Chronicles to share his thoughts and experience as the leader of the nation’s largest utility company by customer count and one of eight black CEOs of a Fortune 500 company.
Dr. Ben Chavis is a global business leader, author and civil rights leader. Dr. Chavis began his career as a statewide youth coordinator in North Carolina for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Chavis Chronicles is a talk show that features interviews with famous business leaders, politicians, cultural icons and celebrities from around the globe. The program offers thought provoking conversations with leaders of African descent about life-journeys, history, social commentary and more.
During the discussion, Butler detailed his professional journey and experience as the CEO of America’s leading and largest energy provider.
“The energy transition that’s taking place in our country is important. We will see more change in the energy industry over the next 10 years than we did the last 100.”
Butler also emphasized how Exelon is leading the energy transformation by empowering the workforce of the future. He noted that, “One of the things I am most proud of is our workforce development programs… Since we started our programs in 2019, we’ve hired roughly 1,800 people and we have 90 programs around our entire organization. These are tailored to equip people to have jobs with us or one of our contractors. I’d love for them to come work for us. But more importantly, we want them to have a sustainable career.”
