Exelon’s 2024 Sustainability Report: Lighting the Path to a Cleaner Future
Exelon is committed to advancing a better, more sustainable energy future and strives to improve the lives of those we serve.
Exelon’s 2024 Sustainability Report is an important resource in these efforts, detailing our company’s programs and performance in the areas of economic, social, governance and environmental initiatives. The report outlines best practices that align with numerous standards and frameworks ranging from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to the Task Force in Climate Related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) – both benchmarks created to help understand sustainability efforts.
“Safe, reliable, resilient and secure energy systems and infrastructure are among Exelon’s non-negotiable priorities,” said Calvin Butler, Exelon President and Chief Executive Officer. “We continue working toward a cleaner and brighter future for our more than 10.7 million customers, and our 20 thousand employees.”
Because of our steadfast work with public service commissions and consumer advocates, we are continuously developing and implementing plans that can lower energy bills, promote sustainability, and support the energy transformation. That’s why Exelon customer rates are 21% below the largest U.S. cities.
Exelon’s commitment to sustainability remains central to our mission of powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities. This is why we plan to invest $38 billion over the next four years to strengthen and modernize the transmission and distribution systems that power our communities. This will enable us to increase electrification and integration of renewable energy into the grid, while enhancing reliability and resilience to extreme weather changes.
In 2021, we created Exelon’s Path to Clean, to reduce our operations-driven greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while supporting our customers and communities in their carbon reduction efforts. We remain on track to reduce GHG emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and achieve net zero operations by 2050. We continued to modernize our energy structure, use cleaner energy in our facilities and vehicles which helped to reduce these emissions.
We are also working every day to support our communities as they look to reach their emission goals. Some of the ways we’re doing this include connecting solar and renewable energy to the grid while providing energy efficiency programs that allow customers to reduce electricity usage, avoid GHG emissions and save money. In 2024, these programs helped those in our service areas avoid over 8.7 million metric tons of Co2 emissions. These efforts are not going unnoticed. In 2024, our operating companies were recognized with awards for customer efficiency programs showing our priority to advance grid resilience and clean energy while maintaining customer satisfaction.
We understand that when our communities thrive, Exelon thrives. We partner with our communities to stimulate economic empowerment through supplier development, corporate philanthropy, and STEM education. One example is Exelon’s Charitable Giving Programs which benefitted nearly 1,500 nonprofit organizations with a total of $38 million in corporate and Exelon Foundation giving.
From supporting individuals, communities and the overall well-being of our planet, Exelon is actively working to address challenges and offer sustainable solutions for our customers. As we’ve detailed in the latest Exelon Sustainability Report, we're committed to providing innovation and best-in-class performance to drive progress for our communities.
