Exelon Honored with CEWD’s Highest Award for Workforce Development Leadership
Exelon is proud to announce that we have been awarded the 2025 Chair’s Award for Workforce Development Leadership by the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD), serving as the organization’s highest honor. This recognition celebrates Exelon’s relentless commitment to building a skilled, diverse workforce that is ready to power the energy transformation.
CEWD is a national, non-profit consortium of energy companies, labor, educators and community organizations dedicated to developing a strong energy workforce. The Chair’s Award recognizes companies that demonstrate excellence in promoting 21st-century energy careers.
This year’s award reflects Exelon’s leadership in all of these areas. So far in 2025, Exelon has invested more than $18.9 million in 108 programs, helping 2,494 individuals secure opportunities both internally and externally. As of Q3 2025, 348 participants have been placed into family-sustaining careers: 44 within Exelon, 48 through community-based organizations, and 156 through other external partners.
“At Exelon, we believe our strength lies in how we serve our communities. Every workforce initiative starts with one question: “How can this create real opportunity for the people who power our communities?” said Marvin Mendoza, VP of Talent, Learning and DEI at Exelon. “That focus drives us to innovate, to grow and to build programs that not only meet the needs of our customers but open doors for our employees and future talent. This award reflects that commitment and the partnerships that make it possible.”
This recognition marks the fifth consecutive year that an Exelon operating company has been honored by CEWD, underscoring our long-standing commitment to workforce development and community impact.
ComEd Earns CEWD Community Partner Award
In addition to Exelon’s achievement, Exelon’s operating company, ComEd, received the 2025 CEWD Community Partner Award, which honors organizations delivering innovative, community-anchored programs that ensure the energy workforce reflects the communities it serves.
ComEd was recognized for its Power Up Academy, a first-of-its-kind career training program launched in partnership with local employers to create a diverse pipeline of technical talent for Illinois’ clean energy future. The program opens doors for individuals to enter high-demand technical roles, without requiring a college degree, and has expanded to include 10 local engineering firms and new pathways through educational institutions.
Working with City Colleges of Chicago, ComEd added accreditation to the program, enabling participants to earn up to 13 college credit hours during the 14-week training. This collaboration ensures that graduates not only gain hands-on skills but also a foundation for continued education and career growth.
Across Exelon, we share a common goal: to create opportunities that strengthen communities and prepare the next generation of energy professionals. These awards affirm that our efforts are making a meaningful impact.
