A Father-Daughter Duo: Building a Legacy of STEM and Innovation
As we celebrate National Intern Day, we are shining a light on the incredible talent and fresh perspectives that our interns bring to Exelon every summer. These bright minds are not just gaining experience; they are actively contributing to our mission of delivering clean, reliable and affordable energy.
Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to Norah Al-Hallaj, a remarkable summer intern who supported Exelon’s Corporate Relations team. Her journey exemplifies the powerful connection between education, innovation and community impact.
“Interning at Exelon has been an incredible experience. The skills and confidence I gained through the STEM Academy truly prepared me to step into this role,” said Exelon intern, Norah Al-Hallaj. “It’s inspiring to be part of a company that’s not only leading the energy industry but also committed to empowering the next generation of professionals.”
Norah's path to Exelon is a testament to her dedication and the foundational support she received. A student of Environmental Engineering at Loyola University Chicago, Norah brings a passion for sustainable solutions to her work.

Her commitment to civic engagement is equally impressive; she previously served as the Chair of Education on the Chicago Mayor’s Youth Commission, demonstrating her early leadership in addressing critical community issues.
What truly set Norah on her trajectory was her participation in the 2023 Exelon Foundation STEM Academy. Norah credits the STEM Academy with profoundly preparing her for her internship, not only by equipping her with essential professional skills and a deeper understanding of the energy industry, but also by instilling a crucial sense of confidence in her abilities. The Academy's focus toward hands-on learning and mentorship provided a unique springboard, allowing her to seamlessly integrate into Exelon and contribute meaningfully from day one.

Norah’s connection to Exelon runs even deeper through her family. Her father, Dr. Said Al-Hallaj, is the visionary Founder and CEO of NETenergy, a pioneering thermal energy storage company based in Chicago.
NETenergy was proudly part of the first cohort of companies selected for the Exelon Foundation’s Climate Change Investment Initiative (2c2i) program. The 2c2i initiative represents a joint commitment between Exelon and the Exelon Foundation to strategically invest in and cultivate meaningful partnerships with start-ups and companies dedicated to advancing climate change mitigation, adaptation and resiliency efforts.
Crucially, this program also aims to promote equity and economic prosperity within Exelon’s diverse service territories. NETenergy’s innovative solutions are already making waves; the company is currently exploring opportunities and partnerships across Exelon regarding cutting-edge thermal energy storage technology for data centers. Dr. Said shared that being part of the 2c2i portfolio allows his company to connect directly with energy personnel who are actively addressing issues to improve customer service, describing teams across Exelon as "champions" for their collaborative spirit in solving problems to help customers.
“The 2c2i program has been a fantastic opportunity for us at NETenergy to learn from Exelon’s smart grid expertise and explore how our technology can support sustainability goals,” noted Dr. Said. “I'm also excited to see Norah gaining so much from her internship, I am confident that it will be a great influence on her college education and professional career.”
Norah's story illustrates the multifaceted ways Exelon is investing in the future – from nurturing emerging talent through programs like the STEM Academy and internship program to a family connection with groundbreaking innovation through partnerships like 2c2i.
Exelon’s commitment to community engagement continues to be focused on creating a powerful ecosystem that benefits both our employees and the energy industry. By empowering individuals like Norah and supporting innovative companies like NETenergy, Exelon is not just building a stronger energy future; we are cultivating the next generation of leaders and technologies that will drive a more sustainable and reliable energy future for everyone. We are incredibly proud of Norah's contributions and look forward to creating even more opportunities for interns with similar ambitions in the future.
