Natural Gas Conversion Process

Working to Make Conversion Easier for You
There are five simple steps for switching to natural gas so you can start enjoying its many benefits as soon as possible.

STEP ONE
Determine whether or not you already have a natural gas service line on your property. For help determining this, and for more information about this topic, please see “What You Need To Know About Natural Gas Service Lines” following Step Five below.

STEP TWO
Contact PECO now at 1-888-499-7808 or by e-mail to set up an appointment with an Electrical Association of Philadelphia (EAP) Natural Gas Conversion Contractor or to learn more about the conversion program. Please be ready with the following information:
• Account number or address of the property.
• The approximate distance from the front of your house to the middle of the street (if you do not currently have a natural gas service line on your property).
• The approximate square footage of your house.
• What natural gas appliances that you plan to install, if any, in addition to natural gas heating.

You do not have to use an EAP Natural Gas Conversion Contractor to receive the PECO rebate, but to receive additional program discounts you do. Keep in mind that EAP Contractors are among the finest and most ethical in the region.

STEP THREE
Meet with your EAP Conversion Contractor and receive a free, no-obligation cost estimate for the natural gas equipment and installation. Or, if you do not currently have a natural gas service line on your property, have your contractor contact our New Business office at:
• Bucks and Montgomery Counties, call 215-956-3270
• Delaware and Chester Counties, call 610-725-7160

The discount associated with the EAP Natural Gas Conversion program will be deducted directly from the cost of the equipment and installation and will be reflected on your cost estimate and final bill.

Your EAP Gas Conversion Contractor may also be able to offer you more information on financing and discounts.

STEP FOUR (applies only to properties WITHOUT a natural gas service line)
Sign the PECO Natural Gas Conversion Agreement and return it to PECO, along with your check for the service line installation charge (if applicable). You must compete and return this form whether or not you owe money for the service line installation. This document verifies that you agree to have a natural gas service line installed on your property. The form will be provided by PECO or your EAP Natural Gas Conversion Contractor.

STEP FIVE
Once your natural gas conversion installation is completed, fill out and sign the PECO Natural Gas Conversion Rebate Form, along with a copy of your PAID invoice to the address below. This will ensure that your $200 PECO rebate will be credited toward your utility bill (please allow four to six weeks for the credit to appear on your bill).

Your EAP Natural Gas Conversion Contractor can provide you with the PECO rebate form, or you can download one now.

Mail your completed PECO Natural Gas Conversion Rebate Form and a copy of your PAID equipment and installation invoice to:

PECO – Natural Gas Marketing
2301 Market St. S11-3
Philadelphia, PA 19103-1380

To convert to natural gas heating, you must have a natural gas service line that runs from our main line and brings natural gas to your home. There are three easy ways to determine this:
• Check your PECO utility bill. If you see a “natural gas” itemization, then you already have the necessary line.
• Check around the outside of your home for a natural gas meter. If you have a natural gas meter, then you already have the necessary line.
• If you're still unsure, call PECO at 1-888-499-7808 and have your account number ready (found in the upper left hand corner of your utility bill).

If you do not already have a natural gas service line, you may be able to have one installed if it is available in your area. Homes currently without a natural gas service line are eligible for PECO credits toward the installation costs of a natural gas service line for each qualifying natural gas appliance installed, in addition to any other rebates or discounts for which you may be eligible.

There may be a cost associated with adding a service line to your property. To help determine the cost, be prepared to provide PECO with the information outlined in Step Two above when you contact us.

Having a natural gas service line installed involves the following:
• Specially trained natural gas service technicians dig up a small area near the street in front of your house to expose the existing gas main.
• The technicians then "tap" a new service line into this main by using a device that burrows through the ground and surfaces right next to your home.
• A meter technician then mounts a natural gas meter to your home.
• Your EAP Natural Gas Conversion Contractor (or contractor of your choice) can make arrangements with PECO to schedule the work with minimal disruption.

It is possible that natural gas is not available for your home. If your home is not close enough to a nearby gas main to allow technicians to install a natural gas service line to your home economically then you will not be able to convert to natural gas.

PECO is continuously improving our system infrastructure and expanding our capacity. To find out whether your property resides along an existing gas main, contact us at 1-888-499-7808.
