Voluntary Load Reduction (VLR)

Voluntary Load Reduction (VLR) Program
Reduce your company’s energy use and enjoy generous savings.

Participants reap savings in the form of credits to their December bill for voluntary reduction of energy use during periods of high energy market prices. Participants benefit the community by lowering their energy use, helping reduce risks of blackouts.

As the name suggests, this program is voluntary and ideal for customers whose energy use is expected to vary significantly every time PECO makes a request.

Two options to consider:

VLR – Day-ahead Market Price:  Good savings option. Ideal for participants who need more than one hour notice to reduce energy use or have a large risk in switching to a generator or reducing loads. Participants can confidently predict how much energy they can consistently reduce whenever a voluntary reduction is called by PECO.

VLR – Day-of Market Price: Better savings option. For customers who can respond to a request to reduce energy use in one hour by switching to a generator or reducing energy use.

VLR Program Logistical Highlights

  • Participation – Minimum reduction of 100 kilowatts each time energy use reduction is requested.
  • Advance Notice

Day-ahead Market Price participants receive notice by noon the day prior to a request for energy use reduction.

Day-of Market Price participants are given at least a one-hour notice on the day of the energy use reduction request.

  • Energy Use Reduction Duration – No more than six hours for each energy reduction request.
  • Payment Date – Bill credits will be applied in December.
  • Penalties for under/non-performance – None.
  • Contract term – One year beginning each June 1.

If you’re not sure which option best fits your organization, we can help. Please contact your PECO Account Manager. If you’re not sure who that is or if you are a new customer, please call 866-850-0357 or send an email to: evaluator@peco-energy.com
