At ComEd, we are committed to maintaining our facilities so that we can provide safe and reliable service. Here, we answer some questions you may have concerning landscaping issues.
An ounce of prevention...
The ideal way to prevent power lines and trees from ultimately getting in each other's way is to plant shorter varieties. Choose the right tree for your landscaping needs.
ComEd does not remove storm debris.
Repairs and Improvements
If our crews cause damage to your property while making repairs and/or improvements to our electrical facilities (e.g., transformers or pedestals), we will provide landscape restoration.
If a contractor working for ComEd causes damage, that particular contractor is responsible for any necessary restoration. The damage could include driving on or digging in the lawn area to access ComEd facilities.
Who is responsible for restoration?
Qualified landscape contractors hired by ComEd perform the landscape restoration. Restorations can include applying new sod, planting seed, replacing vegetation and other cosmetic repairs to return the property as close as possible to its original state. When sod is required, the time of installation depends heavily upon availability from suppliers.
Sod delivery is sometimes delayed in the spring because of weather concerns. The customer is responsible for watering newly planted grass seed or newly installed sod, as well as watering any new plant material.
No Landscaping on Easements
ComEd assumes responsibility for restoring lawn area and property not located on the easement that our crews might have damaged while making repairs to our facilities. Since trees and plant material should not be placed in the easement or around electrical transformers, we do not replace landscaping in those areas.
No Landscaping Pedestal to Meter
ComEd does not provide landscaping following installation of electric service to new residences (connecting the pedestal to the meter) or following maintenance to electric services between the pedestal and meter at existing homes.
