ComEd is offering incentives under the ComEd Smart Ideas for Your Business Program to facilitate the implementation of cost-effective energy-efficiency improvements for non-residential (commercial and industrial) customers.
Eligibility:
- You must be a non-residential (commercial and industrial) customer within ComEd’s service territory. These incentives are available to all customers who receive their electricity over ComEd wires regardless of which retail electric supplier the customer has chosen to purchase power from.
- Purchase energy efficiency equipment or services or contract or conduct work no earlier than June 1, 2008.
- Install measures for energy savings on a meter with an eligible rate schedule. Most non-residential rate schedules are eligible. Please contact ComEd for a list of rate schedules and specific guidelines on eligibility.
How to Apply for Incentives:
NOTE: There has been strong interest from our customers in ComEd’s Smart Ideas for Your Business program. Due to the high demand, effective September 25, 2008, new applications received for business incentives will be added to a waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis. On June 1, 2009, a new program year will begin with significantly more funding. Rules associated with the new program year will be communicated on March 1, 2009.
Step 1: Review your facility and develop energy efficiency opportunities and strategies. For more information, be sure to check out our Energy Efficiency 101 presentation from our Green Ribbon workshops.
Step 2: Download the application (either prescriptive or custom depending on your project), complete and submit -

to request project pre-approval and supply required documentation (pre-approval is required for Custom applications, encouraged for Prescriptive).
Step 3: Purchase and install the new energy efficient product.
Step 4: Submit final application with documentation, receipts, signatures, and invoices to the address on the application form.
Step 5: Work with Smart Ideas for Your Business Program team to facilitate post-implementation inspection, if necessary.
Incentive check typically mailed 4 to 6 weeks after project approval.

Notes:
- Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is an incentive limit of $100,000 per site.
- Public buildings such as a government and schools should refer to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Program.
- Customers may not apply for energy efficiency incentives from ComEd and DCEO for the same project or measure.
- Fuel-switching (i.e., from oil or natural gas to electric equipment), renewable, or combined heat and power technologies do not qualify for incentives.
