ComEd Proposes to Increase Use of Wind Resources in Illinois

ComEd filed a petition on Apr. 4, 2006 with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) for approval to enter into competitively procured purchase agreements for wind energy and renewable energy credits (RECs). The acquisition of wind energy and RECs is in response to Gov. Rod Blagojevich's Sustainable Energy Plan. ComEd recently issued a press release regarding this filing.

Interested parties can view the petition and related documents by visiting the ICC website. To locate the docket, click on e-docket on the ICC Home page, and then click on the "browse a docket" icon. Enter docket number 06-0270 to access the petition.

Once the ICC approves the request, ComEd will issue a request for offers (RFO) to solicit proposals from wind energy generators. The RFO is for sufficient resources to allow ComEd to have an initial portfolio of about 300 MW of wind for delivery starting on or before Dec. 31, 2007. Successful bidders will enter into purchase agreements for energy and RECs with ComEd.
