Year after year, ComEd is recognized by various organizations and publications for its excellence in a number of areas to which we are committed.  Listed below are the honors given to ComEd and its employees.

ENVIRONMENT                                                                                       

  • City of Chicago’s Environmental Excellence Award 2005 - Honored for its environmental leadership and ongoing partnership with the Chicago Park District to restore and preserve Chicago’s natural areas and to provide community-based environmental education programs. (Exelon and ComEd)
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) 2005 - The North Exelon Pavilions in Millennium Park have received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for their energy efficient features and sustainable design. The North Pavilions on Randolph Street house the Millennium Park Welcome Center, Exelon sponsored energy exhibits and the Chicago Shop at Millennium Park. Exelon and its subsidiary ComEd provided funding of $5.5 million for the Pavilions. The solar-powered buildings are a result of Exelon’s joint efforts with the city of Chicago to support sustainable design and renewable energy while furthering educational and social awareness of “green” architecture in Chicago.   • National Arbor Day Foundation® Tree Line USA Award 1999 through 2005 - Awarded for environmentally responsible tree care, worker training, tree planting and public education programs.
  • Solar Electric Power Association’s Business Achievement Award 2004 - Awarded for public awareness and industry leadership for an outstanding level of investment in and completion of solar projects.
  • Illinois Governor’s Pollution Prevention Continuous Improvement Award 2004 -
    Awarded for efforts to educate students about the crucial role that renewable energy will play in their lives.
  • Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Partners for Clean Air 2003 - Recognized ComEd Fleet Management in 2003 for having a “Green Fleet” in the Illinois Green Fleet Program.
  • Illinois Arborist Association Gold Leaf Award 2003 - Acknowledged support of Arbor Day programs and tree giveaway projects throughout the years and the service territory.  In the award’s 20-year history, no other utility has received it.
  • Energy User News’ Efficient Building – Best Public Space Facility Award 2003 - For completion of several turnkey projects to help the Adler Planetarium to reduce their energy consumption and operating costs.
  • Project Habitat Utility 2002 and 2003 - Recognized by BASF for the management of transmission rights-of-way in a manner that is compatible/conducive to wildlife.
  • Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) Innovation Award 2003 - For its innovative partnership with the Chicago Pubic Schools to promote solar energy.

SAFETY                                                                                              

The following awards were granted by the Illinois Safety Council:

  • Public Outreach Award - For giving nearly 100 public presentations on electrical safety in 2007. Public presentations were given to business and civic groups, schools, municipal governments, and fire departments. Fire departments throughout ComEd's service territory rely on ComEd's public outreach training regarding downed wires as they are first responders to motor vehicle accidents, house fires and storm situations.
  • S.A.F.E (Safety Awareness Focus on Excellence) Award - As a result of ComEd's numerous safety programs, employee and upper management involvement, goal setting and accountability, training, and weekly Safety Council Meetings.
  • Fleet and Transportation Outstanding Safety Performance - Awarded for exceptional reduction in motor vehicle accidents for calendar year 2007, as compared to calendar year 2006.
  • Individual Public Outreach Award - David Holman, Senior Safety Specialist received award for providing 17 public outreach presentations on weekends and evenings to fire and police departments, a church, a union hall, a major blacktop company and workers on the set of a major movie production filmed near ComEd's high voltage transmission lines.
  • Individual Heroism Award - David Holman, Senior Safety Specialist received award for protecting a man trapped in his vehicle after it became entangled in live downed power lines following a storm near Newark, IL in December 2007.

COMMUNITY                                                                                              

  • Community Builder Award from Casa Central 2005 - Citing his leadership in support to underserved communities to strengthen and empower individuals and build healthy communities.  (Frank Clark)

  • Hispanic American Construction Industry Association’s Corporate Leadership Award 2006 - Presented to Exelon for its dedication to working with Hispanic-owned businesses in the construction industry.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT                                                                       

  • Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI) Association’s Best Ongoing Business Retention Program 2005 - The Chicago Industrial Trend report, a result of ComEd’s long-term business retention partnership with the City of Chicago and World Business Chicago, was recognized.

OPERATIONS                                                                                            

  • Load Management Alliance's Outstanding Achievement in Demand Response Award 2006 - Presented to ComEd for its demand response programs aimed at ensuring the reliability of the regional electric distribution network and at reducing the need to add additional generation load during periods of peak customer demand.
