Year after year, Exelon and its family of companies are recognized by various organizations and publications for its excellence in a number of areas to which we are committed.  Listed below are the honors given to Exelon and its employees.

ENVIRONMENT                                                                                      


  • Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) -

    The Index represents the top 20 percent of companies in each sector, from the largest

    600 North American companies, that rank the highest in terms of sustainability - economic, social, and environmental performance - based on an extensive evaluation of their performance on more than 100 parameters. Factors evaluated include climate strategy, talent attraction and retention, and corporate citizenship/philanthropy.

  • Carbon Disclosure Project Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 - The Index is comprised of companies that have shown distinction in their responses to the Carbon Disclosure Project survey.  The survey includes  physical risks related to increasing weather severity; regulatory risks resulting from more stringent regulations designed to address greenhouse gas emissions; competitive risks generated by potentially reduced demand for energy and energy intensive products; and reputation risks from perceived “inaction” on climate change. A company’s rating is based on their reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, and an assessment of the company’s climate change strategies.  

  • U.S. Green Building Council’s Highest Environmental Rating 2007 - Presented Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED(R)) Platinum Commercial Interiors (CI) certification to Exelon for its new headquarters. Exelon's new green headquarters is the largest office space in the world to be LEED-CI certified at the platinum level. In its new green headquarters, Exelon has reduced electricity consumption by more than 43 percent and water consumption by 30 percent as compared to its previous space and has created a healthy and more productive work environment for its employees. From workstations, offices and conference rooms, all employees have outside views so they can benefit from natural light.

  • PennFuture’s Green Power Generator Award 2007 and 2008 – In 2008, to Exelon and our partner Epuron for continued leadership in the development of wind energy in Pennsylvania; also recognized Exelon’s commitment to renewable energy through the construction of the Exelon-Epuron Solar Center at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.  In 2007, to Exelon, and its partners SunTechnics and Epuron, for our work in building the nation’s fourth largest solar photovoltaic generation project.  The 3 MW solar plant will be comprised of about 17,000 solar panels located on a 20-acre parcel at Waste Management’s GROWS Landfill in Morrisville (southeastern Pennsylvania).  Exelon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the project – the first agreement of its kind in the PJM Interconnection. 

  • American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Exemplary Energy Efficiency Program 2007 – To PECO’s Low Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP) as one of the nation’s most exemplary energy efficiency programs after a national search and expert panel of review of the program’s ability to help customers reduce their energy use and cost through energy efficient practices in addition to operating a program that utilities can replicate with similar results.  LIURP focuses on teaching homeowners and renters how to reduce their energy usage through remediation measures and conservation.

  • American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Champion of Energy Efficiency Award 2007 – To ComEd for its participation in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Program (MEEP), developed and managed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.  The program helps larger manufacturing firms identify best practices in energy management using innovative tools to create a holistic energy efficiency action plan.  This program leverages the technical expertise of ComEd engineers and financial assistance of DCEO to effectively identify and ultimately implement energy-saving opportunities.

  • Peak Load Management Alliance’s (PLMA) Outstanding Achievement in Demand Response Award 2007 - To ComEd for its portfolio of demand reduction programs that promote the concepts and technologies of reducing demand for energy in response to pricing signals in the marketplace for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

  • Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Merit Award 2007 – To ComEd and natural landscaping contractor Pizzo and Associates for the restoration of a 2.1 acre prairie and wetland area in West Chicago which was previously bluegrass lawn.  The area along ComEd transmission lines is now home to a diverse indigenous plant community, and the project improves wildlife habitat, increases carbon sequestration, prevents runoff, slows erosion, and improves water quality in the area.

  • Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Environmental Sector Delivery and Application Award 2006 - To ComEd and PECO’s Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) team for its implementation of innovative techniques to more effectively address contaminated urban sites. In Illinois, the work helped revise the State's cleanup standards by allowing for the broader use of background standards.

  • National Recreation and Parks Association’s Special Contributor Citation 2005 - Awarded for funding of nature programs in The Chicago Park District.

  • City of Chicago’s Environmental Excellence Award 2005 - Honored for its environmental leadership and ongoing partnership with the Chicago Park District to restore and preserve Chicago’s natural areas and to provide community-based environmental education programs.

  • Design (LEED) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) 2005 - The North Exelon Pavilions in Millennium Park have received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for their energy efficient features and sustainable design. The North Pavilions on Randolph Street house the Millennium Park Welcome Center, Exelon sponsored energy exhibits and the Chicago Shop at Millennium Park. Exelon and its subsidiary ComEd provided funding of $5.5 million for the Pavilions. The solar-powered buildings are a result of Exelon’s joint efforts with the city of Chicago to support sustainable design and renewable energy while furthering educational and social awareness of “green” architecture in Chicago.

  • National Brownfields Conference Phoenix Award 2005 - Exelon Power, along with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, received the Phoenix Award at the tenth annual National Brownfields Conference for its involvement in the innovative remediation efforts as part of the Chester Waterfront Redevelopment Project.  (Exelon Power)

  • PennFuture’s Green Team Award 2003 - For holding together an alliance that worked to overcome local opposition to the Waymart wind facility. (Power Team)

  • Green Power Pioneer of the Year Award 2003 - Awarded to Power Team’s Mike Freeman by the Center for Resource Solutions for his contributions to advancing the development of renewable electricity sources in the marketplace. (Power Team)

  • Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in the category of “Education and Outreach” 2002 - Recognizing the educational benefits of the Clean Mower Rebate Program. (Exelon Power)

  • American Wind Energy Association’s Wind Energy Market Maker Award 2002 - For effectively building a market for wind power in the Mid-Atlantic Region. (Power Team)

COMMUNITY                                                                                         

  • United Way’s Frances Wisebart Jacobs Award 2009 - United Way recognized four Exelon employees - Meg Amato, Tawana Brady, Porfirio Ibarra and Kevin Manson - for outstanding campaign leadership in organizing more than 60 events that raised more than $2.6 million for United Way and achieved an employee participation rate of 68 percent in Illinois.

  • Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year 2008, 2009 - Exelon was honored as “Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year” by VolunteerMatch in its annual survey. 

     
  • 2006-2007 Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez presented the Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership to Exelon Corporation at a White House ceremony on December 5, 2007. Exelon was recognized for the Stay in School program - a collaboration with the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and three community agencies, BUILD, Inc., Centers for New Horizons and Youth Guidance, which takes a unique approach to Chicago’s dropout issue. The Ron Brown Award is the only Presidential Award recognizing companies for outstanding achievement in employee and community relations. 

  • Pennsylvania Bar Foundation’s Louis J. Goffman Award 2007 - Awarded to Exelon’s Legal Department for its commitment to pro bono legal services for Pennsylvania’s poor and disadvantaged residents.

  • American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award 2007 - Awarded to Exelon’s Legal Department for providing pro bono legal services in connection with organizations such as the Center for Disability and Elder Law in Chicago and the Homeless Advocacy Project in Philadelphia.

  • Chicago Lawyers’ Committee’s Corporate Leadership Award 2006 - Presented to Exelon’s Legal Department for its ongoing pro bono work and its extensive diversity program, including its focus on encouraging diversity with specialized and full-scale legal services providers.

  • Corporate Counsel Magazine’s “Trailblazer of 2006” Award - Presented to Exelon Senior Vice President and General Counsel William A. Von Hoene Jr. for his development of Exelon’s legal department’s pro bono program and its ongoing pro bono initiatives, including partnering with law firms’ pro bono and encouragement of employee development of their own pro bono projects.   • Erikson Institute’s Spirit Award 2006 - Presented to Exelon CEO John Rowe for his leadership in education and community efforts. (John Rowe)

  • Delaware Valley Corporate Counsel Association’s Pro Bono Recognition 2005 - Recognized Jenny P. Shulbank, Associate General Counsel, for her work in coordinating Exelon’s pro bono program for the Exelon Legal department as well as for her individual pro bono work.  (Jenny P. Shulbank)

  • Chicago State University’s Friends of CSU Award 2005 - Citing his continuous commitment and support of higher education. (John Rowe)

  • Chicago Bridge Award from Chicago United 2005 - The Chicago Bridge Award serves to honor a corporation supporting the development of a vibrant and richly diverse business community in the Chicago region through successful board diversity.

  • Community Builder Award from Casa Central 2005 - Citing his leadership in support to underserved communities to strengthen and empower individuals and build healthy communities.  (Frank Clark)

2009

  • Diversity Edge Magazine 2009 Best Companies for Diverse Graduates - Exelon ranked No. 5 on the list of the top 20 companies for leadership in recruiting, retaining, and advancing the careers of diverse professionals. Companies are selected for their diversity recruiting policies, leadership development initiatives, training programs, opportunity for mentorship and activeness of employee affinity groups.
  • U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine - Ron Bradley, PECO; Tim Hughes, ComEd; Michelle Blaise, ComEd; Jerrold Martin, Exelon and Randy Tate, Exelon were honored among the 2009 Modern Day Technology Leaders.  These individuals are recognized as accomplished professionals working in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields.  
  • Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Employer of Choice Award - Presented to Exelon's legal department in recognition of its demonstrated commitment to diversity and its creation and maintenance of an inclusive workplace.
  • 2009 Advocate for Diversity Award - Presented to Exelon Executive Vice President, Finance and Legal William A. Von Hoene Jr. by the Diversity Scholarship Foundation for his lifelong commitment diversity, justice and civil rights.
  • American Bar Association’s 2009 Spirit of Excellence Award - Presented to Exelon General Counsel William A. Von Hoene Jr. for his many contributions to diversity at Exelon and in the legal profession at large, including the recruitment, development, retention and promotion of diverse talent.

2008

  • U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine - Three ComEd executives were named by U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine to its annual list of the 100 Most Important Blacks in Technology. The three are ComEd Chairman and CEO Frank M. Clark, George Williams, senior vice president of operations, and Kevin Brookins, vice president of distribution systems operations. The 2008 list features executives from 82 companies, and ComEd placed the third-highest number of executives.
  • Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index Best Places to Work – Exelon ranked among large U.S. employers related to their policies and practices pertinent to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.
  • Diversity Edge Magazine Best Company for Diverse Graduates - Recognizes companies that have shown leadership in recruiting, retaining, and advancing the careers of diverse professionals. The Best Companies for Diverse Graduates list provides diverse students, both undergraduates and graduates, direction as they choose the company at which they will launch their careers.
  • Black Enterprise's "40 Best Companies for Diversity" - Exelon Corporation has been named by BLACK ENTERPRISE (BE) magazine to its list of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity for the second year in a row.  The 40 companies that made the list outperformed their peers in four key areas: supplier diversity, senior management, board involvement, and employee base. 
  • AACA Diverse Business Enablement Award - Emmett Vaughn, Diverse Business Enablement, received the African American Contractors Association (AACA) Community Achievement Award for Outstanding Business Development and Corporate Outreach. The AACA is an organization of over 2,500 contractors in Illinois with a membership, which includes a diverse mixture of construction firms, and contractors.

2007

  • Minority Investment Management Corporate Leadership Award 2007 - Received the 2007 Minority Investment Management Corporate Leadership Award from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA).  Exelon was singled out for its leadership role in the inclusion of minorities in our business operations and commitment to making investments with minority asset managers.  
  • Black Enterprise's "40 Best Companies for Diversity" Based on a corporate diversity survey that focused primarily on activities related to the participation of African Americans and other people of color in four key areas: supplier diversity, senior management, board involvement, and employee base.
  • Chicago Minority Business Development Council's "The Sharing Success Award" - Presented to Exelon CEO, John Rowe.

2006

  • Midwest Region of Minority Business Development Agency’s Corporation of the Year Award - Awarded to Exelon for its exemplary work in Minority Business Development.
  • Minority Supplier Development Council of PA-NJ-DE’s Regional Corporation of the Year Award - Awarded to Exelon for its exemplary minority business development practices.
  • Hispanic Trends Magazine’s Top 50 Companies in Supplier Diversity - Awarded to Exelon for its time, energy, and use of company resources to develop supplier programs that aim to recruit and retain minority suppliers.
  • RainbowPUSH Coalition’s Trading Partner of the Year Award - Awarded to Exelon for its outstanding work with diversity professional services firms, in particular its focus on the minority investment bank community.
  • Niagara Foundation’s Community Service Award - Presented to Exelon CEO John Rowe for his dedication to diversity and service to the community.
  • Minority Business Development Agency’s Corporation of the Year Award - Presented to Exelon for its continued sponsorship of and dedication to the Chicago Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week. Exelon continues to increase its spending with diversity suppliers and creates opportunities for minority and women-owned business enterprises.
  • Women’s Bar Association of Illinois’ “Women With Vision” Award - Presented to Peggy Davis, vice president, diversity, for her relentless commitment to the advancement of the community and sound public policy. The award recognizes women who have demonstrated visionary approaches in their professional careers by making contributions to the well-being and empowerment of women.

  • Public Utilities Fortnightly’s 40 Best Energy Companies 2005-2009 – Exelon has appeared on this list each of its five consecutive years, ranking among the top 5 in 2008 and 2009. U.S. investor-owned utilities and other electric power and gas companies are ranked by four-year shareholder value performance based on metrics such as profitability, dividend yield, cash flow, return on equity and return on assets.

  • Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT 2009 – Computerworld ranked Exelon as the 23rd overall best company in the United States and 15th amongst large companies (10,000 or more employees) in its 2009 “Best Places to Work in IT” edition.

  • Edison Electric Institute Edison Award 2009 - Exelon was named one of four finalists for the 2009 Edison Award, the electric utility industry's highest honor. Exelon was selected as a finalist for its industry-leading strategy to address climate change, Exelon 2020, which sets a goal of reducing, offsetting or displacing more than 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year by 2020.

  • FORTUNE Magazine's "World's Most Admired Companies" 2007 and 2008 - Exelon ranked number 3 in the electric and gas industry and was among only seven utilities named to the list. The rankings are the result of independent surveys of executives, directors and analysts who rated companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. FORTUNE says only the best are listed.

  • Institutional Investor's Best CEOs in America 2008, 2009 - John W. Rowe, chairman and CEO of Exelon Corporation, was named the best CEO in the electric utilities sector by Institutional Investor magazine in its annual ranking of the Best CEOs in America. (John Rowe)

  • BusinessWeek The 50 Best Performers - BusinessWeek magazine's BusinessWeek 50 rankings of top-performing companies ranked Exelon #7 on the 2009 list. The companies that make up the BusinessWeek 50 represent star performers in each of the 10 sectors that make up the S&P 500.

  • The InformationWeek 500 List 2003-2009 - Exelon has ranked among the most innovative users of information technology for seven consecutive years. InformationWeek's annual list examines the best practices of organizations across core areas of operations, including IT budgets, technology deployment, strategies and staffing.

  • Site Selection's Top Utilities in Economic Development - Exelon companies ComEd and PECO received "honorable mention" in Site Selection magazine’s annual Top Utilities in Economic Development September 2008 issue.  The designation is based on performance in four categories: capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita and jobs per 10,000 in population.  It also takes into account responses from a select group of site selection consultants, and the utilities’ own investment in new generation, transmission and renewable energy projects.  (www.siteselection.com)

  • SAM (Sustainable Asset Management)-

    PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and SAM named Exelon as a member of the "Silver

    Class" of Sustainability Leaders within the Electricity Sector in the “The Sustainability Yearbook 2008”.  The 2,500 largest companies in the world, as reflected in the Dow Jones Global Index, are invited each year to participate in SAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment.  The top-scoring 15 percent of companies in each sector are included in the Yearbook. A SAM Sector Leader qualifies for the "SAM Silver Class" if it achieves a score between 70 and 75 percent of the overall score. 

  • Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders List 2007 - Exelon Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Daniel C. Hill was recognized for excellence in performance and achievement in the IT industry. He dramatically reduced IT spending while strengthening governance and security, and improving service levels and customer satisfaction. (Daniel C. Hill)

  • BusinessWeek’s “Best Places to Launch a Career” List 2006, 2007, 2008 - Exelon offers internships, comprehensive salary and benefits packages, cutting edge technology, and training and development programs that keep employees engaged and moving upward, within a diverse and inclusive working environment.

  • InformationWeek’s “InformationWeek 500” List 2006 - Exelon was ranked 56th overall and fourth among energy and utility companies on the list, which ranks top companies using best technology practices to advance their businesses.

  • Platts “Top 250 Global Energy Companies” List 2005 - Exelon was named the number one electric utility in the Americas and number three in the world among electric utilities by Platts on its “Top 250 Global Energy Companies” list.

  • Individual Investor magazine Top Electric Utility CEOs 2005 - Exelon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John W. Rowe was named one of the electric utility industry’s top chief executives in its survey of industry analysts and portfolio managers. (John Rowe)

  • Forbes' "Best-Managed Utility Companies" 2004 - Exelon was named one of the best managed utility companies. Exelon has also been ranked in the Forbes 400 “Best Big Companies,” the Forbes 2000 (No. 173), the Fortune 500 (No. 126) and the Fortune Global 500 (No. 333) lists.

  • General Electric’s Most Efficient Boiling Water Reactors In the World 2004 - General Electric presents awards annually to the 23 most efficient boiling water reactors out of 89 in operation worldwide as measured by year-end gross capacity factor. The 23 reactors represent the top 25 percent.  Capacity factor refers to the amount of electricity actually produced by a power plant compared to what it could theoretically produce running at full power 100 percent of the time. It is a key measure of plant reliability and overall industry performance. For the fourth consecutive year, two generating units at our Limerick Generating Station have received the General Electric awards, (Exelon Nuclear)

  • Among Exelon boiling water reactors with a refueling outage in 2004:
    • Limerick Unit 1 ranked first in the nation and third in the world, with a 96.48 percent capacity factor.
    • LaSalle Unit 1 ranked third in the nation and twelfth in the world, with a 92.25 percent capacity factor.

  • Among Exelon boiling water reactors without a refueling outage in 2004:
    • Limerick Unit 2 ranked first in the nation and fourth in the world, with a 100.78 percent capacity factor.
    • Peach Bottom Unit 3 ranked second in the U.S. and fifth in the world, with a 99.67 percent capacity factor.
    • LaSalle Unit 2 ranked third in the nation and sixth in the world, with a 99.60 percent capacity factor.
