Exelon Corporation ranks 22nd in list of star performers in ten sectors of the S&P 500
CHICAGO – (April 16, 2008) – In its twelfth annual “50 Best Performers” edition, BusinessWeek ranked Exelon the best performing electric utility company and 22nd overall company in the United States.
BusinessWeek “50 Best Performers” reviews company criteria such as size and growth prospects during a three-year measurement period to determine the top 50 finalists. Other criteria used include profit margins; return on shareholder equity; asset growth; sales; and long-term debt. All companies are compared to others in their sectors based on capital and growth values, and the list is constructed and reviewed by a panel of editors to ensure its accuracy.
Exelon accrued sales in excess of $18.9 billion and net income of $2.7 billion for 2007. Revenues increased primarily due to Exelon’s supply of extremely well-run, emission-free nuclear power generation. In 2007, Exelon's nuclear power plants achieved a 94.5% percent capacity factor, compared to a current industry average of about 90%. Exelon presently runs the nation’s largest fleet of nuclear plants and is exploring building a new plant in Texas. From 2005 to 2007, Exelon’s total shareholder return was above that recorded by both the Dow Jones Utility Index and the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index.
“Exelon Corporation is once again honored to be recognized by BusinessWeek as a top performing company,” said John Rowe, president and CEO, Exelon Corporation. “We continually strive to improve the operating performance of both our generation and delivery businesses, led as always by our world-class nuclear program. Our commitment to sustainable value has benefited not only our shareholders but also our customers, communities and employees.”
