Named to 2008 Sustainability Yearbook

CHICAGO (Feb. 13, 2008) – Exelon Corporation’s leadership on environmental issues has been recognized by Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Exelon was included recently in their Sustainability Yearbook, receiving “Silver Class” honors for its climate change strategy and initiatives, among other factors.   Exelon is one of only two U.S. electric companies recognized in the yearbook.

“We have long believed that financial performance and environmental performance go hand in hand,” said John W. Rowe, president and CEO of Exelon. “We greatly appreciate the recognition of Sustainable Asset Management and PricewaterhouseCoopers.”

“The research strongly suggests that there is a positive, statistically significant correlation between corporate sustainability and financial performance. As such, it indicates that sustainability considerations are an integral part of corporate financial performance, and that the integration of such factors into traditional financial valuation can help investors gain insights that facilitate the selection of stocks with an attractive long-term return potential,” according to the Yearbook.

One of Exelon’s programs that contributed to the rating by SAM is its voluntary goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent from 2001 levels by the end 2008. By taking actions to close inefficient plants, improve energy efficiency, purchase renewable energy, and reduce SF6 leakage, the company is on track to meet that goal.

The Sustainability Yearbook represents the top 15 percent of companies in 57 sectors, from the largest companies around the world, that rank the highest in terms of sustainability - economic, social, and environmental performance.  To qualify for the Silver Class, a company must achieve a score between 70 and 75 percent on evaluation criteria. Exelon received particularly high scores in biodiversity, climate strategy, electricity generation, and stakeholder engagement.  To view the Yearbook, visit http://www.sam-group.com/downloads/YB/Yearbook_2008.pdf
