U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger visited Braidwood Station for a press conference to discuss legislation he has introduced to help nuclear plants with regulatory burden they face.
With the plant as the visual backdrop in the Braidwood's employee parking lot, Kinzinger discussed with reporters his recently introduced Nuclear Utilization of Keynote Energy Act (or NUKE Act).
The Congressman stated the legislation would create caps on the fees the NRC charges plants along with reconsidering outdated regulations of the Atomic Energy Act.
Kinzinger, R-Channahon, also spoke about the vast economic and environmental value of the Braidwood, Byron, Dresden and LaSalle plants, which are all in his Congressional district. Kinzinger said zero-carbon baseload generation assets like nuclear power plants must be preserved for energy diversity.
