Preparation is Key! Clinton Power Station Mails Annual Emergency Brochures To Local Residents

CLINTON, Ill. (May 3, 2016) — Exelon Generation, owner of the nation’s largest nuclear power fleet, mailed nearly 15,000 public information emergency planning brochures to residents and businesses within 10 miles of Clinton Power Station.

The informative brochure contains facts about general emergency preparedness, including reception center locations, evacuation routes, a map, and a list of emergency alert broadcast stations. The brochure includes a special needs card to be completed and returned by people who may have a special transportation or other need.

“Residents around Clinton Station have never had to use these brochures, but they are important to have in the unlikely event of an emergency at our plant,” said Clinton Power Station Site Vice President Ted Stoner. “Residents should keep these brochures with other important documents to ensure their availability if needed.”

Exelon’s nuclear facilities are robust. They have multiple physical barriers and layers of backup safety systems to ensure safe operations, even in extreme events such as floods, tornadoes and earthquakes. Exelon Generation has dedicated teams of emergency planning experts at each of its nuclear facilities who work with state, county and local emergency management officials in the development, maintenance, training and testing of emergency response plans.

Federal law requires nuclear operating companies to develop emergency response plans for their nuclear energy facilities and to ensure evacuation plans are in place. State and county agencies often use the plans for non-nuclear related emergencies such as extreme weather events or fires.

Anyone within the 10-mile radius of the three facilities who did not receive a brochure in the mail may download a copy at Clinton brochure at www.exeloncorp.com/clinton

Clinton Power Station is located approximately six miles east of Clinton. The plant produces 1,069 megawatts at full power - enough electricity to power about one million typical homes. Join us on Twitter and You Tube
