Exelon Generation and the employees of Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station (NMPNS) were pleased to be able to continue to support our local community through proceeds of the charity golf outing with a $5,000 donation to the Oswego YMCA's boxing program.
NMPNS Radiation Protection First Line Supervisor, Derrick Falcetti, as well as NMPNS utility mechanic, Derek Breitbeck, established the Oswego Boxing Club at the YMCA in 2013 providing members with an opportunity to train and develop in the area of boxing. The program is focused on youth but open to all ages. For the kids who participate, homework is the first order of business before they get to boxing. Additionally, there are a number of volunteers in addition to Derrick and Derek, who provide not just training but mentoring to participants.
The donation will help provide a membership for some kids that can't afford it, required gear for kids, and materials for the education center; books, pens, pencils, notebooks, school supplies.
Site Vice President Pete Orphanos recently presented the check to the program and many of the participants joined him in the ring for a photo opp!
