Folks working the south wing wall project identified a Great Blue Herron paddling around in the U2 Fish Collection Facility. When it did not try to fly away from them they reported it to site Operations as possibly injured.
Operations notified Environmental personnel and Gentle Hands Animal Removal was contacted for rescue. As the rescuer was carrying the bird away he said both feet were grabbing at him and both wings were trying to flex which is promising for recovery.
Per procedure, Environmental will continue check on the bird's status once the vet has had a chance to evaluate its health. If it is restored to health it will be released within 5 miles of the site.
