Yesterday, Forbes published the inaugural “Just 100” — a list of America’s 100 best corporate citizens.

Exelon was named the No. 1 corporate citizen within the utility industry for our ongoing commitment to prioritizing growth and well-being for our employees, customers and our communities.

Forbes picked companies across the U.S. that are making a social impact above and beyond their industry peers.

In total Forbes evaluated 897 companies across 32 industries from aerospace to e-commerce to energy based on 10 core drivers of company behavior, including supply chain impact, worker pay and benefits, and community wellbeing. Suffice to say, competition for the Just 100 is high.

Exelon is proud to be recognized alongside leading companies on a mission to make the world a better place.

We believe that when our communities are stronger, Exelon is stronger. Whether it’s powering a more sustainable energy future, delivering reliable, affordable energy to our customers, fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce, or giving back to our communities, Exelon is committed to building a brighter tomorrow.

Forbes Just 100 particularly recognized Exelon for its exceptional commitment to diversity and inclusion, saying the following:

“A lot of companies make a big show of talking about diversity and inclusion. At Exelon there’s something behind that talk. The energy company has had a formal diversity and inclusion program since 2008, and in October it adjusted about 100 salaries based on its annual evaluation of racial and gender pay equity.”

A culture of diversity and inclusion results in greater innovation, market competitiveness, and opportunities for growth. That’s why diversity and inclusion isn’t just a lofty goal for us; it’s a strategic business imperative. We have formal goals, strategies and the tracking of progress to hold our entire company accountable. And when something is not working or needs to improve, we implement new policies and programs.

For instance, we recently joined over 100 likeminded companies to sign the White House Equal Pay Pledge, committing to close the national gender pay gap. And yesterday we expanded family leave benefits for parents and caregivers — introducing industry-leading policies that include up to 16 weeks of paid maternity leave and two weeks to care for critically ill family member for eligible employees.

We’re excited to grow on this progress in 2017 and hope that Forbes’ Just List encourages other businesses to join us in powering a brighter and more sustainable tomorrow.
