Braidwood Station is near the middle of an almost six-month environmental study to determine the impact of its water intake structure on fish and other aquatic organisms in the Kankakee River. The study involves pumping water from the river at Braidwood's River Screen House to collect samples and determine species impacted.

- Exelon Generation is an industry leader in environmental stewardship and operates its nuclear power plants at world class levels.
- The U.S. EPA's Clean Water Act requires facilities that use large amounts of water from lakes, rivers or oceans to participate in aquatic studies like this one.
- Exelon's Byron plant completed this study in 2017. That study concluded Byron had the best technology available to minimize impact on the environment.
- Braidwood uses the same technology as Byron to minimize its impact on fish and other organisms in the river.
