Exelon and ComEd Announce Communications Leadership Roles


​CHICAGO — Exelon announced key appointments to its communications leadership team, which will help drive greater engagement across internal and external audiences and build brand awareness. Maggie FitzPatrick, senior vice president Corporate Affairs, Philanthropy and Customer Engagement, announced that ComEd director, Communications Annette Martinez is being promoted to vice president, ComEd communications, succeeding Erica Borggren, who was named the new vice president of ComEd customer channels. Additionally, the company added several key customer-centric roles.
The first Latina to serve in her new role, Martinez, who joined the utility serving Northeast Illinois in 2014, will oversee all of ComEd Communications. A 20-year communications veteran, her accomplishments include successful outreach pertaining to the critically important Future Energy Jobs Act in Illinois and engaging media and other stakeholders on priority ComEd business issues. Prior to joining ComEd, she was the director of External Relations for AGL Resources, the nation’s largest natural gas-only distributor and also served as the Director of Communications for Nicor Gas. Martinez also was an Assistant Commissioner of Communications for the Chicago Department of Aviation, where she led all communication initiatives for Midway and O’Hare international airports.

Exelon also announced it has filled several key roles within Exelon Corporate Communications with senior communications professionals bringing broad customer-centric experience in Fortune 500 companies. Lisa Howard has been named director, external communications, and Donna Sitkiewicz has been named director, internal communications. 
Howard joins Exelon from McDonald’s Corporation, where she held a number of leadership roles, most recently serving as director of global and public affairs.
Sitkiewicz joins Exelon from Kraft Foods and Mondelez International where she served as director of Corporate Communications. Prior to joining Kraft, Sitkiewicz led internal communications for United Airlines. 
Howard and Sitkiewicz will both report to Jean Medina, vice president, Exelon Corporate Communications. 

These appointments complement recent staff additions with strong energy-focused expertise. Jennifer Mullin joined Exelon as director, Advocacy Communication in June. Mullin has diverse experience leading political communication and public advocacy programs. Before working on the most recent presidential contest, she served as director of Public Affairs for Uber. Prior to her role at Uber, Mullin led the Energy & Climate Practice at Glover Park Group. Mullin reports to FitzPatrick.
Andrew Malcolm also recently joined Exelon as a manager on the advocacy team. Malcolm comes to Exelon from the Office of Congressman Greg Walden, Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee. 
Earlier this year, Bryan Dumont joined Exelon in the newly created position of director of Reputation Insights and Strategy. Dumont, a recognized expert in corporate reputation measurement and strategy, was most recently with the Brunswick Group in London where he was a Partner responsible for developing reputation campaigns for large FTSE 100 and global companies.  Dumont was previously with global strategic communications firm APCO Worldwide where he was President for APCO Insight, based in Washington, D.C., and Brussels.

In the past year, Exelon has been recognized for multiple industry awards, advancing brand engagement across diverse stakeholders. Exelon made its debut on DiversityInc's list of Top 50 companies for diversity and 6th for the top 15 companies in hiring for veterans. Exelon ranked 18th on’s list of “50 Best Places to Work” in the Fortune 500. Points of Light also named Exelon to the Civic 50, the organization’s list of the country’s 50 most community-minded companies. Winners were selected based on their investment in community engagement, ability to integrate programs into key business functions, policies and incentives supporting volunteerism and social and business impact. Exelon was named the leader in the utility sector.
