On Aug. 16, 2018, Exelon's Byron Generation Station held its Employee Giving Day on the grounds of the facility's training building at the nuclear plant. The annual event is a kickoff of sorts for the employees on site – starting their new fiscal year for donations to various charitable groups.
Most employees pick a charity or charities of choice and then have regular deductions from their paychecks go to the non-profits, or a single sum. These donations – coupled with the nuclear plant's gifts to charitable causes – reach approximately $250,000 each year.
At the August kickoff event, employees enjoy a free luncheon and some chances to win prizes. Donations for the lunch, and money collected for prize raffles, go directly to the annual collection. Exelon matches a portion of the donations to 501(c)3 charities.
Special thanks were given to all of the Employee Giving volunteers – both from Byron Station and from other sites – who helped make the kickoff event a great success.
