Following Dwight VFW Post 2608's Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11, Dresden Station Communications Manager Sara Peters (right) donated $1,000 on behalf of the nuclear power plant to Carol Dippon, head of Operation Support Our Soldiers, a volunteer organization that sends care packages and letters to active service men and women from the area.
Operation S.O.S. has packaged and shipped treats, toiletries, and words of encouragement for the past 17 years to troops serving around the globe.
Dresden Generating Station in Morris, Ill. employs more than 140 veterans. To honor those employees who served, the station held two ceremonies Nov. 11 – one at 10 a.m. and one at 10 p.m. – so that veterans working each shift of the station's refueling outage could be recognized. Cake was provided at each ceremony, along with music and words of thanks.
