Twenty-two students and two professors from Augustana College’s Sustainable Energy Learning Community visited Quad Cities Station to learn about nuclear power and get a firsthand look at how a nuclear plant operates.
Employees led the students on a tour of the plant, which included seeing the reactor buildings, the giant turbines on the turbine deck, and the spent fuel pool where used fuel is safely stored. The students were treated to lunch at the station’s Professional Learning Center where they learned more about the plant, the safety and security of the station, radiological safety and more.
Augustana College is located in the heart of Rock Island, Illinois. Its Sustainable Energy Learning Community challenges students to think in new, interdisciplinary ways and to pursue common sense approaches to learning.
