BYRON, Ill. - Byron Generating Station Unit 1 returned to full power on Tuesday, March 10 at 7:50 p.m. CDT, following repairs to a main power transformer.
The unit automatically shut down March 3 after ice intrusion interrupted power on one of the unit's transformers. Byron Station Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 1 shutdown.
Byron Station is located in Ogle County, Ill., about 25 miles southwest of Rockford. With both units at full power, the site produces enough electricity for about 2.3 million homes.
