MARSEILLES, Ill. (August 5, 2014) -Exelon's LaSalle Generating Station Unit 2 automatically shut down at 5:34 p.m., after a valve on one of the station's steam lines closed. The plant responded as expected, safely and without incident. Operators are looking into the cause of the valve closure.
The LaSalle Unit 2 shutdown will not have an impact on electrical service to Exelon customers. LaSalle Unit 1 continues to operate at full power.
LaSalle Generating Station is located about 75 miles southwest of Chicago near Marseilles, Ill. At full power, the facility's two generating units produce more than 2,200 megawatts around the clock, enough electricity for 2.3 million typical homes.
