Mark Kanavos Named Braidwood Generating Station Site Vice President

Mark Kanavos, plant manager of Braidwood Generating Station, has been promoted to site vice president.  



Mark Kanavos, plant manager of Braidwood Generating Station, has been promoted to site vice president. Kanavos accepts this role replacing Dan Enright, who was recently promoted to senior vice president of Midwest operations at Exelon Generation.

Kanavos, a Braidwood resident, has more than 30 years of nuclear power experience and has been with Exelon Generation for 7 years.

Kanavos' primary responsibility is to oversee the safe and reliable operation of Braidwood station, including managing a staff of 850 employees, with a focus on safety and overall station performance.

 "I look forward to ensuring that Braidwood Station continues its high performance of operating in a safe manner, and that it continues to be a strong and active member within our local communities," Kanavos said.

 Prior to joining the Braidwood team, Kanavos was the plant manager at Clinton Power Station in Clinton, Ill. Before that role, he held the plant manager position at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose, Texas.
Kanavos received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia.

Frankfort resident Marri Marchionda has been promoted to Braidwood Station plant manager. Marchionda will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the plant, which include the operations, maintenance, work control, chemistry/environmental and radiation protection departments.

Marchionda joined the company in 1987. Before being named plant manager, Marchionda was the operations director at the station. Marchionda has held several leadership positions in operations, radiation protection and regulatory assurance.

Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station's two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300 megawatts at full power - enough electricity to power more than 2 million typical homes.
