BYRON, Ill. - Byron Generating Station Unit 2 returned to full power on Saturday, March 23 at noon CDT, following repairs to a motor associated with the main generator cooling pump.
The unit was manually shut down by operators on Wednesday, March 20 following the main generator cooling pump motor malfunction. The generator, pump and motor are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
Byron Station is located in Ogle County, Ill., about 25 miles southwest of Rockford. With both units at full power, the site produces enough electricity for about 2.3 million homes.
