Exelon Named Highest-Ranking Electric Utility on 2010 InformationWeek 500

Company climbs into the top 25 on list of top 500 technology innovators

CHICAGO - Leading technology magazine InformationWeek ranked Exelon 25th overall and the top electric utility on this year's list of the top 500 technology innovators in the U.S. This is the eighth consecutive year Exelon has been named to the InformationWeek 500.

"Exelon is honored to be named to the InformationWeek 500" said Daniel C. Hill, senior vice president and chief information officer of Exelon.  "The ranking demonstrates the critical role that IT strategy, architecture, and solid execution plays throughout our organization and with key initiatives such as the ComEd new smart meter pilot program."

InformationWeek recognized Exelon's IT organization in particular for its support of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) pilot program that Exelon subsidiary ComEd is conducting in up to 131,000 customer homes and businesses across its Northern Illinois service territory. In support of the initiative, the Exelon IT team developed an AMI solution architecture to transform related business processes and achieve optimal performance. The pilot enables ComEd to assess how the new meter technology can improve service and help customers make more informed decisions about their energy use.

"For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said InformationWeek editor-in-chief Rob Preston. "As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth - new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year's ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge."

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies.
