BRACEVILLE, Ill. (April 26, 2009) - Braidwood Generating Station operators brought Unit 2 back online at 7:28 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 following repairs to a temperature monitoring system.
The unit automatically shut down at 11:41 a.m. on Friday, April 24. During the shutdown the plant responded as expected, safely and without incident. There was no risk to the public and no injuries associated with the shutdown.
Braidwood Unit 1 continued to operate at full power during the Unit 2 shutdown.
Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units running at full power, Braidwood generates enough electricity to power more than two million average American homes.
