John   Barnes

Senior Vice President, Exelon Generation & President, Exelon Power

 

​​​​​​​​​​​In his role as president of Exelon Power, Barnes oversees the operations and maintenance of Exelon Generation’s standard-setting fleet of efficient and reliable power plants, which employs 14,000 workers, has facilities in 19 states and powers more than 20 million residences and businesses. As the nation’s largest producer of carbon-free energy, Exelon Generation’s fleet of nuclear, wind, solar, hydroelectric and natural gas generates more than 31,000 megawatts of power.

 

Professional History

Prior to taking on the role of president, Barnes was Exelon Power’s chief operating officer, overseeing the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the generating stations located in Exelon Power’s mid-Atlantic, Northeast, South and West regions.  

Before becoming COO, Barnes was vice president of Exelon Power’s business operations, where he was responsible for the business unit’s capital and operations and maintenance spending. He also oversaw the analysis and development of the long-term strategy for the business unit’s assets.
 

Civic Involvement

Barnes is a member of the board of trustees for the Williamson College of the Trades located in Media, Pennsylvania.  

 

Education

Barnes received a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Dynamics from Immaculata University in Malvern, Pennsylvania, and earned an associate degree in Power Technology from Williamson College.
