We're on the Path to Clean

Egret2.jpgA message from Calvin Butler, CEO, Exelon Utilities, Senior Executive Vice President, Exelon

At Exelon Utilities, we know that our 10 million customers are concerned about climate change, and so are we. They want cleaner air, and so do we. They want corporations taking action to protect our planet, and we are. It guides our work each and every day. We are deepening Exelon’s commitment to protect our planet, and Exelon Utilities will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent below 2015 levels by 2030.

We’re on the Path to Clean, building on a goal currently in place for Exelon Corporation to cut emissions 15% by 2022 and demonstrating how our utilities are transitioning to a cleaner future. This goes hand in hand with Exelon Utilities’ commitment announced last summer to electrify half of our vehicle fleet by 2030.

Challenging ourselves to combat climate change in practical and meaningful ways is the right thing to do, and we’ll keep doing that as we prepare to separate into the new Exelon utilities company next year. Let’s take a closer look at how we will make our operations cleaner across our six Exelon utilities – Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco -- by 2030. We will be:
  • Modernizing our natural gas infrastructure to minimize emissions
  • Focusing on energy efficiency and clean electricity for our operations
  • Investing in cleaner equipment and vehicles
We are also innovating to develop more efficient ways to manage and modernize the grid by investing in research initiatives. We are advocating for policies that advance clean and affordable energy access and transportation for all. And we are partnering with communities to help them meet their climate goals.

As I consider the real-world impact of this step on our Path to Clean, I am struck most by the fact that commitments like the one we are making today positively impact communities of color, which disproportionately suffer the effects of poor air quality in this country. We talk frequently about equity and our purpose at Exelon – powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities. It’s not just talk. This marks yet another tangible step forward as we advocate for equity in the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
