Associate Financial Analyst, Exelon Corporate

​​​​​​​​I graduated in 2013 with an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining Exelon, I worked as a Junior Financial Analyst at Associates in Nephrology, a private doctor’s group in Chicago. A few of my hobbies include playing and watching sports and traveling.​

Tell us about your job at Exelon.

I am an Associate Financial Analyst with BSC Finance. I work in the Chase building in downtown Chicago. As an Associate Financial Analyst I support the planning, reporting and analysis functions for various shared services corporate functions such as Human Resources, Finance and Supply. As part of Corporate Finance, I am responsible for the month-end close process, preparing monthly financial reports for senior leadership as well as any special data analysis requests.

What made you want to work for Exelon?

I chose to work at Exelon because the energy industry is constantly changing and evolving. It makes for an exciting work environment where you’re always looking to improve, and become faster and more efficient. In this industry, you are not inventing something new. You have to change with the industry so it’s critical that Exelon remains flexible and constantly look for process improvements to continue to be an industry leader.

What do you like most about working for Exelon?

The team that I work with is primarily the reason I love my job and enjoy coming to work every day. It’s a very lively, inclusive environment and we all get along really well. The group is extremely supportive of one another. Even in an entry level position such as mine, the expectations are set high. By showing an eagerness to learn and get involved, you open doors to new opportunities and responsibilities. At this company you are surrounded by smart, talented people with diverse perspectives who challenge each other to constantly improve, and your career is really what you make of it. Exelon gives you the tools for continuous improvement and using those opportunities to your advantage will really set you on a successful path through the company.

I am a part of DYP and NEW. I’ve gone to both groups signature events this year and used these events as opportunities to expand my network across the company. ​

 

 

A Day in the Life

8:30 AM
I generally start my day around this time. My role is cyclical on a monthly basis and is always changing. At the beginning on each month I am focused on entering all journal entries for the previous month for various shared service corporate functions and analyzing any major variances to budget for the month, year-to-date and full year view. 
During the middle of the month I am focused on pulling together the monthly reporting packages for the various shared service corporate functions, providing commentary to variances, and presenting these results to area leadership. 
 During the end of the month I have time to work on ad hoc data requests and projects that come up.
5:00 PM
I look to close out any other daily actions before heading home.​
