Tell us about your job at Exelon.
I currently work in Chase Tower in Chicago for BSC IT under the Enterprise Wide Solutions umbrella for the Technical Architecture team. My main responsibilities include back-end server support for the various applications on the EWS team which spans across Unix, Mainframe, and Windows servers.
What made you want to work for Exelon?
I was very excited to work for a Fortune 500 company. I was very curious to see what kind of impact that I could make while being a part something so large and widespread. I have found that the culture here in IT is very open and they welcome new and innovative ideas. I love the challenge of bringing these new ideas to the table and building upon the legacy solutions that are already in place.
What do you like most about working for Exelon?
The people have been a huge plus in working for Exelon. I do not view many of my peers as co-workers but more as friends. This creates an environment very conducive to progress and teamwork. I have also been very fortunate to have the opportunity to stay technical as I have progressed up the career ladder. I was afraid that my role would turn into more of a managerial model as I grew within the company but as I progressed, I made sure that my management was aware that I wanted to stay technical, where my passion lies. They have definitely made my wishes a priority.
Are you part of any Exelon Employee Resource Groups?
I am a founding member of the Developing Young Professionals ERG and am currently the VP of Chapter Relations within the group. A few years back, a few friends and I identified a need within the company; that young professionals should have more opportunities to network with one another. There was definitely a barrier that existed between young professionals in different OpCos as their interactions were limited. This is the idea that DYP was born from. Since becoming an official ERG, we have brought on many new members in the Chicagoland area and have become a well-known and established ERG.
What activities do you participate in outside of work?
In my spare time, I love working on small programming projects with my friends. One of the most interesting ones that I am working on is creating a video game using the XNA framework from Microsoft. Because of this, I have gotten involved with a few Chicago Independent Game groups. It is a very social and supportive community that all shares a common interest; creating video games!
