Grande Prairie is Exelon's only generating asset located in Canada. The station’s single turbine is powered by clean natural gas utilizing state-of-the-art emissions controls and is used to meet western Canada's peak energy demand periods. Grande Prairie joined Exelon Power’s fleet in 2012 as part of Exelon’s merger with Constellation.
Emergency Planning
All Exelon facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans to protect public health and safety. These plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and regulatory agencies. The emergency planning includes coordination with local counties, municipalities and school districts.
Supporting the Local Economy
Grande Prairie Generating Station pays local real estate taxes every year to support county and township government, area schools, libraries, park districts and other taxing bodies.
