Environment
EPA's ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year -- 2012 and 2013
For the second consecutive year, the U.S. EPA recognized all three Exelon utilities — BGE, ComEd and PECO — as ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year for Sustained Excellence for their continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency efforts. The utilities were recognized for their continuous contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information, services and products to its customers to increase energy efficiency.
Carbon Disclosure Project Leadership Indexes (2005-2008, 2010, 2012)
In 2012, Exelon was one of 15 companies — and two U.S. utilities — to be named to the S&P 500 Carbon Performance Leadership Index for its leadership in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change. Exelon was one of seven utilities named to CDP’s S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for excellence in carbon emissions reporting.
Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (2006-2012)
Exelon was named to this index for the seventh consecutive year, in recognition of the company’s corporate sustainability performance. Inclusion is based upon an in-depth analysis of economic, environmental and social criteria, such as climate change strategies, energy consumption, human resources development, knowledge management, stakeholder relations and corporate governance.
- Chicago Zoological Society Conservation Leadership Awards 2011
The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, presented the Conservation Leadership Award to Exelon in recognition of its significant impact on conservation efforts locally and around the world. The company was honored for its Exelon 2020 strategy, whereby Exelon has eliminated more than half of its carbon footprint -- equivalent to taking 1.5 million cars off the road.
SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) Sustainability Yearbook 2008, 2011
Named by SAM to the “Bronze Class” of sustainability leaders in the electricity sector in the “The Sustainability Yearbook 2011.” Exelon was one of five U.S. utilities to be included in the Yearbook, which recognizes the top-scoring 15% of companies in terms of sustainability performance.

- U.S. Green Building Council’s Highest Environmental Rating Presented Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Platinum Commercial Interiors (CI) certification in 2007 to Exelon for its Chicago headquarters. At the time it was renovated, Exelon’s green headquarters was the largest office space in the world to be LEED-CI certified at the platinum level, USGBC’s highest rating. Exelon has reduced electricity consumption by more than 50% and water consumption by 30% as compared to its previous space and has created a healthy and more productive work environment for its employees. From workstations, offices and conference rooms, all employees have outside views so they can benefit from natural light. In 2009, PECO’s West Chester Service Building in Pennsylvania also received LEED’s Silver certification, as did the administrative building at Clinton nuclear power plant in Illinois.
PennFuture’s Green Power Generator Award 2007 and 2008
In 2008, to Exelon and our partner Epuron for continued leadership in the development of wind energy in Pennsylvania; also recognized Exelon’s commitment to renewable energy through the construction of the Exelon-Epuron Solar Center at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. In 2007, to Exelon and partners SunTechnics and Epuron, for our work in building the nation’s fourth largest solar photovoltaic generation project. The 3-megawatt (MW) solar plant will be comprised of about 17,000 solar panels located on a 20-acre parcel at Waste Management’s GROWS Landfill in Morrisville (southeastern Pennsylvania). Exelon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the project—the first agreement of its kind in the PJM Interconnection.
American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Exemplary Energy Efficiency Program 2007
To PECO’s Low-Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP) as one of the nation’s most exemplary energy-efficiency programs after a national search and expert panel review of the program’s ability to help customers reduce their energy use and cost through energy efficient practices in addition to operating a program that utilities can replicate with similar results. LIURP focuses on teaching homeowners and renters how to reduce their energy usage through remediation measures and conservation.
- American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Champion of Energy Efficiency Award 2007
To ComEd for its participation in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Program (MEEP), developed and managed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). The program helps larger manufacturing firms identify best practices in energy management using innovative tools to create a holistic energy efficiency action plan. This program leverages the technical expertise of ComEd engineers and financial assistance of DCEO to effectively identify and ultimately implement energy-saving opportunities.

To ComEd for its portfolio of demand reduction programs that promote the concepts and technologies to reduce demand for energy in response to pricing signals in the marketplace for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Merit Award 2007
To ComEd and natural landscaping contractor Pizzo and Associates for the restoration of a 2.1-acre prairie and wetland area in West Chicago that was previously bluegrass lawn. The area along ComEd transmission lines is now home to a diverse indigenous plant community and the project improves wildlife habitat, increases carbon sequestration, prevents runoff, slows erosion and improves water quality in the area.

- Governor’s Volunteer Service Award 2013
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and the Service Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service recognized Exelon for its employee volunteer work with Youth Guidance, a partner agency in the Exelon Stay in School program. As the business honoree for Illinois’ northeastern region, Exelon was one of five companies to receive the award.
Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year 2008-2010
Exelon has been honored as “Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year” by VolunteerMatch in its annual survey for three consecutive years.
United Way’s Frances Wisebart Jacobs Award 2009
United Way recognized four Exelon employees—Meg Amato, Tawana Brady, Porfirio Ibarra and Kevin Manson—for outstanding campaign leadership in organizing more than 60 events that raised more than $2.6 million for United Way and achieved an employee participation rate of 68% in Illinois.
Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership 2007
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez presented the Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership to Exelon Corporation at a White House ceremony on December 5, 2007. Exelon was recognized for the Stay in School program—a collaboration with the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and 3 community agencies, BUILD, Inc.; Centers for New Horizons; and Youth Guidance—which takes a unique approach to Chicago’s dropout issue. The Ron Brown Award is the only Presidential Award recognizing companies for outstanding achievement in employee and community relations.
Pennsylvania Bar Foundation’s Louis J. Goffman Award 2007
Awarded to Exelon’s Legal Department for its commitment to pro bono legal services for Pennsylvania’s poor and disadvantaged residents.

Exelon was one of 25 employers nationwide to be recognized as the best place for recent college graduates to work. Employers were evaluated based on their career advancement opportunities, company cultures, compensation and benefits, and work-life balance. The list of outstanding employers for recent grads was compiled by Experience, the largest university-endorsed career network.
- Equality Forum’s International Business Leadership Award 2013
The Equality Forum presented Exelon the International Business Leadership Award in recognition of the company’s longstanding commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusion and equality in the workplace. Equality Forum coordinates LGBT History Month, produces documentary films, undertakes high impact initiatives and presents the largest annual international LGBT civil rights summit.

Professional Woman’s Magazine named Exelon a top employer of multiculturally diverse women in the Energy, Gas and Oil industry. Named one of the 100 most military-friendly employers for 2013, marking the sixth consecutive year Exelon has appeared on the list. - Edison Electric Institute Emergency Response Awards 2012
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) honored all three Exelon utilities – BGE, ComEd and PECO – for their outstanding efforts in 2012 to restore power to customers following storms or natural disasters. The awards recognized the 10,000 Exelon employees who successfully restored electric service to 850,000 PECO customers and 350,000 BGE customers in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. The Exelon utilities were selected for responding swiftly and efficiently, overcoming difficult circumstances, utilizing innovative techniques, communicating effectively with customers, and restoring service promptly.

As part of its U.S. Investment Management Awards, Institutional Investor magazine named Exelon Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer Douglas Brown Large Corporate Pension Plan Manager of the Year. The awards recognize U.S. institutional investors whose innovative strategies and fiduciary savvy have resulted in impressive returns.

- Edison Electric Institute Emergency Recovery Award 2011
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) honored two Exelon utilities, PECO and BGE, for their response efforts in restoring power to more than 500,000 and 750,000 customers respectively, following Hurricane Irene in August 2011. EEI recognized the than 4,000 PECO employees and contractors for restoring power to nearly 99 percent of customers within 72 hours of the storm and the 6,700 BGE employees who replaced 138 miles of distribution line, 348 distribution poles and nearly 250 transformers within five days of the storm's passing.

ComEd and PECO received “honorable mention” in Site Selection magazine’s annual Top Utilities in Economic Development September 2008 issue. The designation is based on performance in four categories: capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita and jobs per 10,000 in population. It also takes into account responses from a select group of site selection consultants and the utilities’ own investment in new generation, transmission and renewable energy projects.
