Exelon’s accomplishments, financial and otherwise, continue to be noticed. Year after year, Exelon and our family of companies are recognized by various organizations and publications, reflecting our commitment to excellence in areas such as environment, community, diversity and operations.

Exelon was the top-ranked U.S. utility for the second year in a row on Forbes's 2011 list of the largest, most powerful public companies. It has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for six years running. And numerous organizations have recognized our innovative work in the areas of diversity and inclusion and social responsibility.

Environment

  • 2013 Energy Star Logo
    EPA's ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year -- 2012 and 2013
    For the second consecutive year, the U.S. EPA recognized all three Exelon utilities — BGE, ComEd and PECO — as ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year for Sustained Excellence for their continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency efforts. The utilities were recognized for their continuous contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information, services and products to its customers to increase energy efficiency.

    Carbon Disclosure Project Leadership Indexes (2005-2008, 2010, 2012)
    In 2012, Exelon was one of 15 companies — and two U.S. utilities — to be named to the S&P 500 Carbon Performance Leadership Index for its leadership in reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change. Exelon was one of seven utilities named to CDP’s S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for excellence in carbon emissions reporting.
  • Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes Logo
    Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (2006-2012)
    Exelon was named to this index for the seventh consecutive year, in recognition of the company’s corporate sustainability performance. Inclusion is based upon an in-depth analysis of economic, environmental and social criteria, such as climate change strategies, energy consumption, human resources development, knowledge management, stakeholder relations and corporate governance. 


  • Chicago Zoological Society Conservation Leadership Awards 2011
    The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, presented the Conservation Leadership Award to Exelon in recognition of its significant impact on conservation efforts locally and around the world. The company was honored for its Exelon 2020 strategy, whereby Exelon has eliminated more than half of its carbon footprint -- equivalent to taking 1.5 million cars off the road.

  • SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) Sustainability Yearbook 2008, 2011
    Named by SAM to the “Bronze Class” of sustainability leaders in the electricity sector in the “The Sustainability Yearbook 2011.” Exelon was one of five U.S. utilities to be included in the Yearbook, which recognizes the top-scoring 15% of companies in terms of sustainability performance.
  • Republicans for Environmental Protection’s Theodore Roosevelt Award for Corporate Leadership 2011
    To Exelon for demonstrating that reducing harmful emissions needs to be part of a broader, market-driven strategy that will diversify our country's energy choices, reduce costs, and foster economic growth through investments in advanced energy technologies.

  • U.S. Green Building Council’s Highest Environmental Rating Presented Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Platinum Commercial Interiors (CI) certification in 2007 to Exelon for its Chicago headquarters. At the time it was renovated, Exelon’s green headquarters was the largest office space in the world to be LEED-CI certified at the platinum level, USGBC’s highest rating. Exelon has reduced electricity consumption by more than 50% and water consumption by 30% as compared to its previous space and has created a healthy and more productive work environment for its employees. From workstations, offices and conference rooms, all employees have outside views so they can benefit from natural light. In 2009, PECO’s West Chester Service Building in Pennsylvania also received LEED’s Silver certification, as did the administrative building at Clinton nuclear power plant in Illinois.

    PennFuture’s Green Power Generator Award 2007 and 2008
    In 2008, to Exelon and our partner Epuron for continued leadership in the development of wind energy in Pennsylvania; also recognized Exelon’s commitment to renewable energy through the construction of the Exelon-Epuron Solar Center at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. In 2007, to Exelon and partners SunTechnics and Epuron, for our work in building the nation’s fourth largest solar photovoltaic generation project. The 3-megawatt (MW) solar plant will be comprised of about 17,000 solar panels located on a 20-acre parcel at Waste Management’s GROWS Landfill in Morrisville (southeastern Pennsylvania). Exelon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the project—the first agreement of its kind in the PJM Interconnection.

    American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Exemplary Energy Efficiency Program 2007
    To PECO’s Low-Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP) as one of the nation’s most exemplary energy-efficiency programs after a national search and expert panel review of the program’s ability to help customers reduce their energy use and cost through energy efficient practices in addition to operating a program that utilities can replicate with similar results. LIURP focuses on teaching homeowners and renters how to reduce their energy usage through remediation measures and conservation.
  • American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) Champion of Energy Efficiency Award 2007
    To ComEd for its participation in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Program (MEEP), developed and managed by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). The program helps larger manufacturing firms identify best practices in energy management using innovative tools to create a holistic energy efficiency action plan. This program leverages the technical expertise of ComEd engineers and financial assistance of DCEO to effectively identify and ultimately implement energy-saving opportunities.

    Wildlife Habitat Councils “Wildlife at Work” Certification
    To Clinton power plant, ComEd Superior Street Prairie Station and Oyster Creek power plant 2008.
  • Peak Load Management Alliance’s (PLMA) Outstanding Achievement in Demand Response Award 2007
    To ComEd for its portfolio of demand reduction programs that promote the concepts and technologies to reduce demand for energy in response to pricing signals in the marketplace for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
  • ILLCA Logo
    Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Merit Award 2007
    To ComEd and natural landscaping contractor Pizzo and Associates for the restoration of a 2.1-acre prairie and wetland area in West Chicago that was previously bluegrass lawn. The area along ComEd transmission lines is now home to a diverse indigenous plant community and the project improves wildlife habitat, increases carbon sequestration, prevents runoff, slows erosion and improves water quality in the area.

  • Governor’s Volunteer Service Award 2013
    Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and the Service Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service recognized Exelon for its employee volunteer work with Youth Guidance, a partner agency in the Exelon Stay in School program. As the business honoree for Illinois’ northeastern region, Exelon was one of five companies to receive the award.

    Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year 2008-2010
    Exelon has been honored as “Corporate Volunteer Program of the Year” by VolunteerMatch in its annual survey for three consecutive years.
  • United Way logo
    United Way’s Frances Wisebart Jacobs Award 2009
    United Way recognized four Exelon employees—Meg Amato, Tawana Brady, Porfirio Ibarra and Kevin Manson—for outstanding campaign leadership in organizing more than 60 events that raised more than $2.6 million for United Way and achieved an employee participation rate of 68% in Illinois.
  • Ron Brown Logo
    Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership 2007
    U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez presented the Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership to Exelon Corporation at a White House ceremony on December 5, 2007. Exelon was recognized for the Stay in School program—a collaboration with the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and 3 community agencies, BUILD, Inc.; Centers for New Horizons; and Youth Guidance—which takes a unique approach to Chicago’s dropout issue. The Ron Brown Award is the only Presidential Award recognizing companies for outstanding achievement in employee and community relations.

    Pennsylvania Bar Foundation’s Louis J. Goffman Award 2007
    Awarded to Exelon’s Legal Department for its commitment to pro bono legal services for Pennsylvania’s poor and disadvantaged residents.
  • Diversity Edge Logo
    American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award 2007
    Awarded to Exelon’s Legal Department for providing pro bono legal services in connection with organizations such as the Center for Disability and Elder Law in Chicago and the Homeless Advocacy Project in Philadelphia.

  • Best Places to Work for Recent Grads 2013
    Exelon was one of 25 employers nationwide to be recognized as the best place for recent college graduates to work. Employers were evaluated based on their career advancement opportunities, company cultures, compensation and benefits, and work-life balance. The list of outstanding employers for recent grads was compiled by Experience, the largest university-endorsed career network.
  • Equality Forum’s International Business Leadership Award 2013
    The Equality Forum presented Exelon the International Business Leadership Award in recognition of the company’s longstanding commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusion and equality in the workplace. Equality Forum coordinates LGBT History Month, produces documentary films, undertakes high impact initiatives and presents the largest annual international LGBT civil rights summit.
  • Most Powerful & Influential Women in Illinois 2013
    The National Diversity Council recognized Exelon SVP and Treasurer Stacie Frank as one of the Most Powerful & Influential Women in Illinois for her leadership excellence, record of accomplishments, impact on Exelon, commitment to the well-being of the community and commitment to the highest ethical standards. The award honors high-ranking female executives across industries.
  • Transformational Leadership Award 2013
    The Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council presented Exelon and ComEd the Transformational Leadership Award in recognition of the companies’ leadership and innovation in the area of supplier diversity in Illinois.

  • Black EOE Journal’s Top Energy Employer 2013
    Black EOE Journal named Exelon a top diverse employer in the energy, gas and oil industry for its corporate diversity and inclusion efforts and policies in the workplace. 
     

  • Military Times EDGE Magazine's "Best for Vets" Employers 2013
    Military Times EDGE ranked Exelon No. 40 out of more than 1,000 major corporations surveyed in its Best for Vets 2013: Employers ranking, which recognizes companies for military-friendly policies and programs to actively recruit and hire military veterans.
  • Professional Woman's Magazine's Best of the Best 2013
    Professional Woman’s Magazine named Exelon a top employer of multiculturally diverse women in the Energy, Gas and Oil industry. Along with its subsidiary, ComEd, and competitive retail business unit, Constellation, Exelon was one of more than 250 U.S. companies recognized for its active outreach and diversity employment policies toward women Latinos, African-Americans and military veterans.
  • Historically Black Engineering Schools Top Supporter 2013
    Recognized as a top corporate supporter of the nation’s historically black engineering programs. Corporations and government organizations were honored for their work to promote diversity in the science, technology, engineering and math fields based on surveys of engineering school deans at 14 historically black colleges and universities.

  • Human Rights Campaign Best Places to Work 2011-2013
    For the third consecutive year, Exelon earned a perfect 100% rating and was named a "Best Place to Work" on HRC's Corporate Equality Index. The index recognizes large U.S. employers for inclusive policies and practices pertaining to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees.

  • G.I. Jobs Top Military Friendly Employers 2008-2013
    Named one of the 100 most military-friendly employers for 2013, marking the sixth consecutive year Exelon has appeared on the list. The list recognizes the top 2 percent of more than 5,000 eligible companies for their long-term commitment to recruiting and retaining former military personnel and favorable policies for Reserve/Guard members called to active duty.
  • Uptown Professional's Top 100 Executives in Corporate America 2011 and 2012
    Exelon SVP of Corporate Affairs, Calvin Butler, Jr., was named one of the top 100 corporate executives in America for the second year in a row by Uptown Professional magazine, a national publication that covers workforce diversity. The list recognizes high performing urban and diverse corporate executives.
  • Hispanic Business Magazine's Corporate Elite 2012
    Exelon SVP Federal Regulatory Affairs, Public Policy and Communications Joseph Dominguez was named one of 25 dynamic leaders on a list honoring Hispanic executives who have made significant contributions to their respective fields and fostered the advancement of the Hispanic community through charitable work and community service.
  • Chicago United's Business Leaders of Color 2011
    Chicago United named Exelon Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Calvin G. Butler to its annual list of Business Leaders of Color. The list honors accomplished and innovative corporate and civic leaders who have led their teams to success and demonstrated a commitment to public service.
  • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Company of the Year 2011
    The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) named Exelon its Company of the Year in recognition of Exelon's outstanding contributions to SHPE and its programs, which include promoting the achievements of Hispanic employees and fostering partnerships with public schools with high Hispanic enrollment.
  • HispanicBusiness' Best Companies for Diversity 2011
    HispanicBusiness included Exelon in the magazine's 2011 Diversity Rankings. The rankings recognize 60 U.S. companies for their commitment to Hispanic hiring, promotion, marketing, philanthropy and supplier development.

    Black Enterprise’s “40 Best Companies for Diversity” 2007-2009, 2011, 2012
    BLACK ENTERPRISE Magazine named Exelon to its list of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity. The 40 companies that made the list outperformed their peers in four key areas: supplier diversity, senior management, board of directors and employee base.
  • EEI Edison Award Finalist 2011
    Named a finalist for the 2011 Edison Award, the electric power industry’s most prestigious honor, for Exelon’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion among its financial partners. The annual award recognizes utilities for outstanding leadership, innovation and contribution to the industry.
  • Hispanic Business Magazine 2010
    Exelon SVP of Federal Regulatory Affairs, Public Policy and Communications Joseph Dominguez was named one of the nation’s 100 most influential Hispanics in business, government, academia and the arts.
  • JCUA's Arthur Goldberg Social Justice Award 2010
    Presented to Exelon EVP, Finance and Legal, William A. Von Hoene, Jr., by the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs for his contributions to making the legal profession more accessible to, and reflective of, the community at large.

    Diversity Edge Magazine Best Companies for Diverse Graduates 2008, 2009

  • U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine 2009
    Ron Bradley, PECO; Tim Hughes, ComEd; Michelle Blaise, ComEd; Jerrold Martin, Exelon; and Randy Tate, Exelon were honored among the 2009 Modern Day Technology Leaders. These individuals are recognized as accomplished professionals working in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
  • Minority Corporate Counsel Association's Employer of Choice Award 2009
    Presented to Exelon’s legal department in recognition of its demonstrated commitment to diversity and its creation and maintenance of an inclusive workplace.
  • American Bar Association’s 2009 Spirit of Excellence Award
    Presented to Exelon General Counsel William A. Von Hoene, Jr. for his many contributions to diversity at Exelon and in the legal profession at large, including the recruitment, development, retention and promotion of diverse talent.
  • Minority Engineer Magazine 2009
    Ranked 30 on the 18th Annual “Top 50 Employers."
  • Posse Foundation Civic Leadership Award 2009
    Presented to Exelon Chairman and CEO John Rowe and wife Jeanne the for their commitment to education and Chicago’s youth.
  • Advocate for Diversity Award 2009
    Exelon EVP of Finance and Legal William A. Von Hoene, Jr., was presented the award at the Illinois legal community’s seventh annual Unity Dinner for his lifelong commitment to diversity within the legal community.

  • Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s 100 Best Corporate Citizens 2010, 2011, 2013
    Recognized by CR Magazine as one of the nation’s 100 best corporate citizens. In 2013, Exelon ranked No. 2 overall for climate change and tied for No. 1 for corporate governance. The rankings assess companies’ corporate responsibility in terms of environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, philanthropy and financial.
  • FORTUNE Magazine's "World's Most Admired Companies" 2006-2013
    Exelon ranked as one of the top five most admired U.S. electric and gas utility companies in the world for 2013. The rankings are the result of independent surveys of businesspeople who rated companies in their own industries on nine criteria, from financial soundness to social responsibility. 


  • Edison Electric Institute Emergency Response Awards 2012
    The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) honored all three Exelon utilities – BGE, ComEd and PECO – for their outstanding efforts in 2012 to restore power to customers following storms or natural disasters. The awards recognized the 10,000 Exelon employees who successfully restored electric service to 850,000 PECO customers and 350,000 BGE customers in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. The Exelon utilities were selected for responding swiftly and efficiently, overcoming difficult circumstances, utilizing innovative techniques, communicating effectively with customers, and restoring service promptly. 
  • Institutional Investor
    Institutional Investor's Large Corporate Pension Plan Manager of the Year 2012
    As part of its U.S. Investment Management Awards, Institutional Investor magazine named Exelon Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer Douglas Brown Large Corporate Pension Plan Manager of the Year. The awards recognize U.S. institutional investors whose innovative strategies and fiduciary savvy have resulted in impressive returns. 
  • Public Utilities Fortnightly's "40 Best Energy Companies" List 2006-2012
    In 2012, Exelon ranked first out of 82 U.S. energy companies measured on financial performance -- including profitability, dividend yield, free cash flow, return on equity and return on assets -- plus long-term sustainability over four years of results.
  • Edison Electric Institute Emergency Recovery Award 2011
    The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) honored two Exelon utilities, PECO and BGE, for their response efforts in restoring power to more than 500,000 and 750,000 customers respectively, following Hurricane Irene in August 2011. EEI recognized the than 4,000 PECO employees and contractors for restoring power to nearly 99 percent of customers within 72 hours of the storm and the 6,700 BGE employees who replaced 138 miles of distribution line, 348 distribution poles and nearly 250 transformers within five days of the storm's passing.
  • Chief Executive Magazine’s Most Valuable CEOs 2011
    Exelon CEO John Rowe was ranked No. 2 on Chief Executive Magazine’s annual list of the 50 most valuable CEOs in the nation. The rankings recognize the CEOs of S&P 500 companies who created the most wealth for their companies in 2011.
  • Forbes Magazine's "Global 2000" 2011
    Exelon was the top-ranked U.S. utility for the second year in a row on this annual list of the world’s 2,000 largest, most powerful public companies. The list ranks companies in terms of sales, profits, assets and market value.
  • Platts Global Energy Lifetime Achievement Award 2010
    Presented to Exelon executive Elizabeth “Betsy” Moler for her contributions as a preeminent voice on energy policy throughout her 40-year career in Washington, D.C. Moler is the first woman to win this award.
  • Information Week Logo
    The InformationWeek 500 List 2003-2010
    Exelon ranked No. 25 on this list of the most innovative users of information technology in 2010, the eighth consecutive year the company has appeared on the list. InformationWeek’s annual list examines the best practices of organizations across core areas of operations including: IT budgets, technology deployment, strategies and staffing.
  • Forbes Magazine's "America's Best Companies" 2009
    One of three companies the editors named to their list of the best companies in the U.S for 2009. The magazine cited Exelon’s foresight on climate change, well-run nuclear fleet and pragmatic management approach as reasons for selecting the company.

    BusinessWeek The 50 Best Performers 2009
    BusinessWeek magazine’s “BusinessWeek 50” rankings of top-performing companies ranked Exelon #7 on the 2009 list. The companies that make up the “BusinessWeek 50” represent star performers in each of the 10 sectors that make up the S&P 500.

    Institutional Investor’s Best CEOs in America 2008, 2009
    John W. Rowe, chairman and CEO of Exelon Corporation, was named the best CEO in the electric utilities sector by Institutional Investor magazine in its annual ranking of the Best CEOs in America.

    Recognized for offering internships, comprehensive salary and benefits packages, cutting-edge technology, and training and development programs that keep employees engaged and moving upward within a diverse and inclusive working environment.

    EEI “Emergency Recovery Award” 2007-2008
    To ComEd for outstanding restoration efforts following severe storms that disrupted service for more than 600,000 customers in 2007 and more than 500,000 customers in 2008.

    Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT 2009
    Ranked 23rd overall best company in the United States and 15th amongst large companies (10,000 or more employees) in its 2009 edition of “Best Places to Work in IT.”
  • Edison Electric Institute Edison Award Finalist 2009
    Named one of 4 finalists for the 2009 Edison Award, the electric utility industry’s highest honor. Exelon was selected as a finalist for its industry-leading strategy to address climate change, Exelon 2020, which sets a goal of reducing, offsetting or displacing more than 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year by 2020.
  • Business Leader of the Year Award from Drexel University 2009
    Presented to Denis O’Brien, President & CEO of PECO.
  • Site Selection’s Top Utilities in Economic Development 2008
    ComEd and PECO received “honorable mention” in Site Selection magazine’s annual Top Utilities in Economic Development September 2008 issue. The designation is based on performance in four categories: capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita and jobs per 10,000 in population. It also takes into account responses from a select group of site selection consultants and the utilities’ own investment in new generation, transmission and renewable energy projects.
