Since 2000, Exelon Energy Delivery has continued building on solid traditions of progressive vegetation management. Vegetation management, which includes line clearance activities such as tree trimming, is critical to the safe and reliable operation of our transmission and distribution systems.
Green Lane Project
The results of PECO's Green Lane Project were exhibited at Utility Arborist Association seminars, International Society of Arboriculture seminars, the Philadelphia Flower Show, and other venues over the project duration. Heightening awareness among other utilities, this landmark study highlighted best practices for integrated vegetation management on utility rights-of-ways.
Environmentally Responsible Programs
Our environmentally responsible vegetation management programs also train crews to identify invasive species that severely damage local tree populations, such as the Asian Long-Horned Beetle.
Wood-Chip Recycled Program
In 2001, PECO's wood-chip program recycled 12,000 tons of wood-chips in 592 tractor-trailer loads. In partnership with a wood-chip removal company, PECO manages 12 wood-chip transfer sites to beneficially reuse the vegetation debris from line clearance activities.
