PECO proposes change in natural gas delivery service rate
Bringing our customers safe, reliable natural gas service is what PECO’s Natural Gas division is all about. During the last 20 years, we've managed to maintain the same delivery service rate. This is the portion of your bill that covers the cost of delivering natural gas to customers. While your bill may have increased during the years because of the cost of natural gas itself has increased, no other natural gas company in Pennsylvania has gone this long without an increase to its delivery rate.
During the next few weeks, you will probably see and hear reports about proposed changes to PECO’s natural gas rates, because the company has filed for a delivery service rate increase with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC).
First of all, we recognize that a rate increase may affect your business, but we are filing to change our rates in order to make investments to our natural gas delivery infrastructure needed to continue to provide safe, reliable service to our 480,000 gas customers. In addition to our residential customers, our General Service rate (GC) customers will see changes to their bills if the increase is approved. If approved, a commercial customer using 40 Mcf of gas each month would see an increase of about 13 percent on their total bill. Temperature Controlled Service (TCS) rates will not be changing with this filing but will continue to be based on alternate fuel pricing.
We want to keep you informed of the upcoming changes so you can incorporate the changes in your planning process. The rate request proceeding before the PUC is likely to take nine months, so any adjustment would be effective no later than Jan. 1, 2009.
