Ready with the supply, ready to deliver, PECO gears up for its peak season for gas
Whether you buy your natural gas supply directly from PECO or through a third-party marketer, PECO must be ready to deliver safe, reliable gas service. With the heating season getting underway this month, gas throughput increases sharply. For PECO, the last few months have been like getting ready for prime time.
PECO will invest $60 million this year in capital improvements to the regional gas delivery system. The system consists of two local gas storage plants to provide peak day supplies, 31 gas gate stations that allow PECO to connect with regional interstate pipelines that bring natural gas from the source points to our area, and 13,000 miles of underground distribution mains and service lines. Capital funds go toward system reinforcement and performance improvement.
We analyze the system continually to determine areas that require work to accommodate rising customer demand and improve overall safety and reliability. In towns across the suburban counties, PECO has been completing distribution improvements in recent months in advance of the peak season. PECO has invested each year in its natural gas delivery system to extend or replace distribution lines, expand capacity, and connect thousands of new customers to meet the region's growing needs.
And, most importantly, as natural gas has become increasingly the fuel of choice for heating, cooking, and industrial applications, PECO's delivery charge has remained the same during the past 20 years!
