New in PA! Call Before You Dig is now 8-1-1

Pennsylvania has a new telephone number for a special purpose.
Under state law, you must call 8-1-1 (PA One Call) at least three days before any excavation project, and underground facility locators will come out and locate underground facilities before you start any landscaping or other outdoor project involving digging.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the use of 8-1-1 as a national abbreviated telephone number to promote safe excavation activities. Every day, excavation can cause consequences that you may not expect, resulting in injury or death, environmental damage or delays. Each year, PECO responds to many damage calls after dig-ins with underground electric and natural gas lines, which can be hazardous.
To avoid potential problems, just dial 8-1-1 three business days before you start any project with excavation involved. It’s a good idea for safety and it’s the law in Pennsylvania.
