Lighting The Way To Energy Savings

CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs) use about 75% less energy than traditional standard light bulbs... last up to 10 times longer... and each one could save you up to $72 in energy costs over its lifetime.

ComEd’s Smart Ideas for Your Home is providing discounts on ENERGY STAR® qualified CFLs and fixtures. Currently, at participating Home DepotCostco*, Sam's Club*, Ace Hardware, Lowe'sJewel-Osco, Menards, True Value, Food 4 Less, and Do-It-Best locations, you'll find an instant shelf discount on a variety of CFL bulbs — including globes, twists, reflectors, candelabras, floodlights, A-lines and bathroom vanity bulbs. There is a 12-bulb limit per purchase. Discount available while supplies last.

*Members only

ComEd has also arranged for several in-store ENERGY STAR CFL lighting demonstrations to help educate customers about CFLs.

In addition, ComEd is sponsoring several Holiday Lighting and LED trade-in events across Illinois. Come share the season with ComEd and learn how you can save energy and money this winter.

Additional lighting tips:

  • Replacing just four 60-watt incandescent bulbs with comparable CFL bulbs could save you up to 4 percent, or up to $176, on your electricity bill over the lifetime of the bulbs. Actual savings will depend on your usage and electric rates.
  • Consider using photocells or motion sensors that are rated for CFLs to control outdoor lights.
  • Replacing halogen lamps in torchiere fixtures with CFLs can save 60% - 80% in energy. And because CFLs don't get as hot, they reduce the fire risk associated with the high temperatures produced by halogens.
