Business Customer News

Medium-Sized Customers Declared Competitive

In the fall of 2007, the Illinois legislature signed into law a competitive declaration altering the selections available to ComEd's medium-sized business customers (customers with demands of 100 to 400 kilowatts).

Business customers affected by the competitive declaration were mailed one of two informative letters in October, one for customers on retail electric supply and one for customers supplied by ComEd.

As part of this new legislation, all medium-sized business customers new to ComEd’s service area will automatically be billed on an hourly rate if they choose ComEd service. These medium-sized businesses may also choose to receive service from a Retail Electric Supplier (RES).

For more information, call our Business Customer Satisfaction Team at 877-426-6331. Or, if you are a customer with demands greater than 400 kilowatts, call your account manager.

ComEd Files to Replace Expiring Supply Contracts, Purchase Renewable Energy Credits

In October, ComEd filed a proposed electric power procurement plan with the Illinois Commerce Commission to replace its power contracts expiring in June 2008.

ComEd’s proposed procurement plan sets out how much of each type of electricity products (base load, intermediate and peaking energy) the company needs to purchase in the coming year to replace its expiring supply contracts.

The plan also provides for use of energy efficiency and demand response programs, as well as the acquisition of renewable energy credits. Procurement plans for periods after May 31, 2009 will be prepared and filed by the Illinois Power Agency. Click here to learn more.

ComEd Helps Businesses Reduce their Bills and Improve the Environment

On Nov. 15, 2007, ComEd filed a three-year plan with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) outlining proposed energy efficiency programs that will help our customers save more than $155 million on their electricity bills over the life of the programs’measures. Click here to learn more.
