ONTARIO, NY – Exelon Generation’s R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant returned to full power at 10:30 p.m. on March 13, after removing the unit from service on March 8 to facilitate transmission system repairs in a connected RGE switchyard.
To ensure line workers’ safety during the electrical repair, the plant was required to shut down and disconnect from the regional power grid. There was no impact on electrical service to area customers.
R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant is located on 426 acres along the south shores of Lake Ontario in Ontario, NY, about 20 miles northeast of Rochester and 53 miles southwest of Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station. The plant has operated at more than 95 percent of capacity in the past 10 years and generates enough carbon-free electricity for nearly 500,000 homes.
