Peach Bottom Returns to Full Power after Refueling Outage

Plant ready for safe, reliable operating cycle

DELTA, PA. – Operators at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station returned Unit 2 to full-power operation at 4:56 a.m. today, successfully completing a planned refueling and maintenance outage that began October 24.
 
In addition to replacing nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel, Peach Bottom employees and supplemental workers completed over 13,000 maintenance activities, safety inspections and equipment upgrades to keep the unit running safely and efficiently for another two-year cycle. 

To support this work, Peach Bottom employed nearly 1,600 additional workers. Many of them traveled to the station from outside the area for the weeks-long outage. The influx of workers spent money locally providing a significant boost to the local economy.

"We did a lot of work during the outage that will help ensure the safe and reliable production of 
zero-emissions electricity during the next two‑year operating cycle," said Site Vice President Michael J. Massaro. “Everyone onsite worked together, as one team, to complete the outage safely and with precision.”  

Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station is located on the west bank of the Conowingo Pond (Susquehanna River) in York County, Pa. The station is home to two boiling water reactors, capable of powering more than 2.25 million homes and businesses. Both reactors began commercial operation in 1974.
