Braidwood Unit 2 Returns To Service

Braidwood Generating Station Unit 2 returned to service at 3:31 a.m. today after an unplanned outage.

BRACEVILLE, Ill. (Aug. 5, 2009) - Braidwood Generating Station Unit 2 returned to service at 3:31 a.m. today after an unplanned outage.

The unit automatically shut down at 8:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 after outside electrical power delivered to the generating unit was interrupted. Plant personnel completed inspections and work that allowed the station to restore the standard off-site power feed to Unit 2.

During the shutdown the plant responded as expected, safely and without incident. There was no risk to the public and no injuries associated with the shutdown.

Braidwood Unit 1 continued to operate at full power during the Unit 2 shutdown.

Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units running at full power, Braidwood generates enough electricity to power more than two million average American homes.
