John Ponzi, a welder and mechanic at Nine Mile Point, was recognized with the prestigious Admiral Bruce DeMars Excellence Award for his many contributions to safe, reliable operations at Nine Mile Point as well as for his involvement in New York's Clean Energy Standard (CES) program development. The DeMars Award is given to only one individual within the Exelon Generation fleet each year based upon a number of factors including leadership characteristics, high standards of performance, ability to resolve issues and service to the company and community.
Throughout his nearly 10 years at the plant, Ponzi consistently provides leadership, innovative solutions and engagement at both the department and station level. He demonstrates high standards for craftsmanship and is consistently involved in improving plant processes and equipment.
Ponzi also has been a strong employee advocate of New York's CES, acting as a steward for the nuclear industry and the Nine Mile Point community. He made it a priority to attend bus trips to Albany and local public hearings, and he also conducted outreach with his elected officials. Following every meeting he would ensure his fellow workers and community members understood the importance of the CES to the environment and the community
We are proud of John and appreciate his hard work and dedication to Nine Mile Point.
