Employees at Quad Cities Station helped Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from both Iowa and Illinois earn their Nuclear Science Merit Badges this year by hosting separate workshops for the Scouts in the station’s Professional Learning Center.
The Boy Scouts toured the control room simulator, which is an exact replica of the station’s Unit 1 control room where reactor operators monitor and run the plant. They also received demonstrations in radiography, 3-D atomic models and much more. In the last four years, 125 Boy Scouts have earned their Nuclear Science Merit Badges at Quad Cities Station.
The Girl Scouts spent their day at the station learning about fission, atoms, careers in nuclear, radiation, nuclear technology and more. They also toured the simulator and the station’s fish hatchery.
